Etetol Settlement in Iphars | World Anvil

Etetol

Iphars is being reworked! Please bear with me!

Etetol is a costal town in the western part of Vagrigh in the archipelago Kliras. It is owned by the Gatherers of the Past organization, who are most of the inhabitants of the town. Other than being a place for the organization to stay, what makes this town special is that half the town is on solid land and the other half underwater, to adapt for the Siren inhabitants.

The town

While it is called "Ashtarian" it does not mean it is where all Ashtarians live in. The Ashtarian district is the part of the town that is located under water and where all the Sirens of the town live in. It hold some underwater farms and barns for the aquatic animals that the Gatherers of the Past use as helpers in their travels. There is an inn for Siren passersby and a couple of taverns for the ashtarian etetolians.

It is where all the non-aquatic people live in. It has a couple of harbours to hold all the ships from the Gatherers of the Past as well as a shipyard with a ramp to move the ships in and out the water. A lighthouse is found between the harbours to avoid shipwrecks. There is an inn for passersby and a couple of taverns for the ipharian etetolians. South of the town there are some fields and a couple of barns for the farm animals and passersby' animals.

Government

The town is ruled by the two leaders of the Gatherers of the Past and the help of four assistants. The responsabilities of ruling of the town being divided into the two of the leaders.

Ashtara branch - it involves the Ashtarian leader and two ashtarian assistants. They are responsable of the underwater part of the town as well as the incoming and outcoming ships as well as the nearby waters of the town.
Ipharian branch - it involves the Ipharian leader and two ipharian assistants. They are responsable of the terrestrial part of the town as well as the trading and passersbye. Making sure the outskirts of the town is safe is also their responsability.

Anything that affects both parts of the town or different parts that are controlled by the different branches has to be agreed by both branches before being accepted, such as taxes and laws.

Trading

As the town is more focused on the objective of the organization, a lot of the basics things to mantain a town alive were overseen, and thus, trading has always been important, although they have been the past years working on becoming an independent town.

Food has been something the town has always needed. A fairly big part of the winnings of the organization has been used to by food for the inhabitants of the town, although with the new underwater and terrestrial farms, the need of buying food has been drastically falling.

In the start, building materials were also highly needed, except wood, as there is plenty of trees near the town. The expenses of buying materials were never too high, as many of them were able to be bought in exchange of wood. Nowadays, while building materials are still needed (although in a lower quantity) most materials required are for the expeditions of the organization.

Most trades happen with other towns and settlements around the islands. Some trades have been able to be done with other Sirens from other places of the oceans. For rarer materials, ships are sent to the south of Emea.

History

The town was funded a couple of decades ago, originally with only Ipharian people in it, to recover what they saw falling from the sky and then possibly sell it. The organization settled down in where the town now stands as it had good access to the sea and to a section where a lot of things fell down from the sky.

As time passed and they learned about these artefacts and ruins coming from Ashtara, the town invited Sirens to live in the coast of the town, offering help on starting an adequate place for them to live in exchange of them helping on their incursions to visit the ruins. As most Sirens were interested in recovering what once was theirs, they accepted and with their help, the incursions improved a lot.

I love this article, and I really love the graphics you have used for the demographics. I think it's really cool that there is an underwater part of the town. :D

The overall astetics are quite pleasing. Two little things though. A) For some reason I have a hard time mousing over and clicking the first linked Kliras. It also seems to break CSS a little.   B) In the Infographics consider linking things, for example Zetoni - if they are the most common species I want to know more about the.

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the reminder to add links to the infographics! Doing the CSS for it made me forget about the links xD As for the problem with the link, I will take a look at it although I'm not sure what's happening as I don't have that problem.

Gotta love those charts! Very clear and pleasing to the eye ^^ Quite an interesting town for it having two parts! Are the Ashtara ruins quite nearby?

They are fairly nearby but can also be very far away. The gatherers mainly work around Kliras for commodity of their workers, closest ruins are not even a kilometer away while the furthest ruins might be on the other side of the world. Of course, as they keep doing their job and ruins finish being explored, they must go further and further away :D

ohhhh your demographic circles........ love that the diff parts of town still have to work together! Are there ever serious conflicts between the sides?

I'm glad you liked it! There surely was a conflict between sides at some point, probably because Ipharians weren't too happy to have strangers near their houses, or perhaps the Ashtarians asked for better payment/housing/etc! Will surely have to talk about it once we can edit SummerCamp articles again

So much duality here. Not only the differences between districts, but the way sirens and non-aquatic inhabitants live together and separated at the same time. I love it!

I absolutely love the graphics in this article! It is so cool that two seemingly different places have joined together as one. Great job Cato!
