The Grestian Wastes

The Wastelands of Gres

The land of Gres is a quite inhospitable mesa region, with many thunderstorms and sandstorms plaguing the land. However, the region is incredibly dense in iron, copper, aluminum, and chromium. This has made the country of The Grestian Wastes one of the main exporters of iron and steel. Those brave enough to brave the wastes can easily find themselves rich if they know how to properly run a mining operation. With the innate mineral abundance in Gres, The Grestian Wastes have often found themselves in conflict with the nearby dwarven kingdom of Drudnik. Although the dwarven army is much stronger than the meager army the Grestian Wastes hold, the harsh conditions do not favor traditional warfare causing the dwarves to make small territorial gains in peace talks. The government of the Grestian Wastes has a fairly weak presence outside of the main cities of the country, making the outskirts of the wastes a popular area for bandits and outlaws, with even a few orcish hordes rising in power in a few areas.

A Dwindeling Country

The Grestian Wastes, although rich in mineral resources, is slowly losing political power. Whether it be from large mining corporations or the territorial loss from the Drudnikian Dwarves, the country of The Grestian Wastes is slowly getting weaker and weaker, to where it is near inevitable that the country will either collapse or be capitulated by Drudnik. The capital of Grestia is the longest-standing city in Gres, being magically protected from the harsh conditions of the wastelands by a local archmage and Grestian council member, Anibahn. The land of Gres is a common area for the Followers of the Hunt to go after tougher, rarer prey in a more rugged environment. The Grestian Wastes are a common area for criminal syndicates, with many factions fighting for control of the wastes. This is due to the weakness of the country's government and the isolation of the region from foreign affairs, not to mention the potential money gained from mining the area.
