Naming Traditions

Gnomes generally take names related to nature in some way. The two populous subspecies, rock and forest, choose to name their children accordingly. Rock gnomes having last names like Granitespeck or Jacinthus, while forest gnomes use Oakleaf and Lilystep. Svirfneblin, or deep gnomes, don't use these naming conventions and instead choose names that follow the same guidelines as orcs: simple and easy to grunt.

Beauty Ideals

Both rock and forest gnomes feel that "pretty" beauty is something to strive for. This means cleanliness, femininity, and obvious aesthetic choices are highly valued.

Svirfneblin are considered a blight on the gnomish race as a whole, and they prefer not to speak of their fallen brethren.

Gnomes mature at the same rate humans do, and most are expected to settle down into an adult life by around age 40. They can live 350 to almost 500 years.
