Harengon

Harengons are a humanoid race resembling rabbits that originated from the Feywild.

Anatomy

Characteristics of harengons include long, powerful legs ending in paw-like feet, large, rounded ears protruding from the top of the head, and a snout. Their skin can range from snow white to jet black, with various shades of brown and grey between.

Biological Traits

Unlike many creatures with fey ancestry, harengons are short-lived, with the oldest rarely passing 50 years of age.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Harengons are vegan, subsisting only on plant matter. Many harengon dishes incorporate a wide range of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. The recipes adopted by other cultures often include meat in them, but this is counter to harengon cuisine.

Harengons are generally solitary beings. They do not form large communities, instead settling by themselves or in pairs. They are often found residing on the outskirts of settlements, away from the main bustling areas, preferring isolation. Young harengons are often abandoned by their parents, left to fend for themselves and to build up their independence. Rarely do parents track down their children after abandonment, and vice versa. Harengons are free-spirited travellers, and have spread far and wide across many worlds of the Material Plane from their native Feywild. They rarely stay in one place for long, and prefer to journey on foot. A harengon's world view and personality are shaped by the company they keep. Those who travel with heroes tend to become brave and ambitious, while those who travel with brigands become mean and antagonistic. Contrary to their solitary lifestyle, a harengon who forms a bond with others will stay bonded with them for life, even going so far as to lay down their life to protect their allies.

History

Harengons originated in the Feywild, where they spoke Sylvan and embodied the spirit of freedom and travel. The first documented appearance of harengons in Iorobush was in the year 219 T.H. Often found in the forest between Tref Gaín and Pentríf, where the Feywild bled into the Material Plane, they began to move outwards as their curiosity got the better of them. Their sense of wanderlust took them all over the continent, never staying in one place for long before wanting to go and see more of the world.
