Everfade
Once known as Neverwinter, this city nestled on the coast just outside of the Neverwinter Woods Marks the southern edge of Basque's original expansionary region. Established as a port for the Basque Commercial Fleet, Neverwinter was largely left for itself when the hoped-for riches of the Tullian Wildes ended up being largely more trouble than they were worth to the Guildmasters.
Neverwinter, however, managed to utilize its newfound freedom well. Lead at first by Ladrian Neverwinter, a fleet captain who was appointed as Lord Regent by the BCF when the port was first founded and elected to stay with his new home when the BCF withdrew, Neverwinter weathered several harsh years and eventually grew into its role as a commercial center for the various groups that called the area between the Ketmuth and Karuhga Mountains.
This role was solidly cemented several decades later, during the rule of Ladrian II, when a trade deal between Neverwinter and King Oliver Sandstone of Muradin led to the creation of the High Road, the first major highway constructed on the continent since the fall of the Elven Empire several hundred years earlier.
Following the assassination of Ladrian's descendant Nerevar, Neverwinter fell into chaos as the lords and barons that had risen up in the 2 centuries of power squabbled to gather control (re-rise of glasstaff). The Church of the Forgotten, having recently taken control of Muradin when Queen Iglatia appointed her mysterious spiritual advisor as ruler upon her death, was quick to take advantage of the chaos and annex the city, renaming it Everfade. Most of the city, fearful of the chaos caused by a power vaccuum, was open to the stability offered by the Church and put up little resistance to the move.
Things have returned to a quiet normality since the Church took over. While some may chafe under the rule of the Church, all who wish to leave are free to do so, and the medical care that the Church provided free of charge to those hurt in the barons' squabbles earned them strong support among the lower classes within the city.
