The following is the mechanical implementation of moon elves for the Pathfinder 1e system. For implementations in other systems, please see the full article linked above.

Standard Racial Traits

+2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution
Moon elves are nimble and social to a fault, but their forms are frail.

Elf
Moon elves are humanoids with the elf subtype.

Medium
Moon elves are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Normal Speed
Moon elves have a base speed of 30 feet.

Languages
Moon elves begin play speaking Common and Elven. Moon elves with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following languages: Celestial, Draconic, Gnoll, Gnomish, Goblin, Orcish, and Sylvan.

Offensive Racial Traits

Weapon Familiarity
Moon elves are proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, scimitars, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon.

Defensive Racial Traits

Elven Immunities
Moon elves are immune to magic sleep effects and get a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against enchantment spells and effects.

Feat & Skill Racial Traits

Keen Senses
Moon elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.

Well-Traveled
Moon elves receive a +2 racial bonus on one of the following skills of their choice at character creation: Bluff, Diplomacy, Perform (any), or Sleight of Hand. That skill is always a class skill for them.

Magical Racial Traits

Blessings of Estella (Su)
A moon elf can cast Cloak of Shade and Dust of Twilight each once per day, using their total character level as their caster level.

Sensory Racial Traits

Darkvision
Moon elves can see in the dark up to 60 feet, though their vision in darkness is in black and white.

Alternate Racial Traits

Replaces Darkvision

Light Walker
Some moon elves have lost their gift for the shadows. Moon elves with this racial trait gain low-light vision, allowing them to see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light. This racial trait replaces the Darkvision racial trait.

Replaces Elven Immunities

Cold Resistance
Moon elves who dwell in frigid areas develop natural resistance to freezing dangers over the course of a few generations. Moon elves with this racial trait gain cold resistance 5. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities.

Seducer
Certain moon elves possess an innate understanding of desire and impulsivity, values preached by their goddess. Moon elves with this racial trait add +1 to the saving throw DCs for spells and spell-like abilities of the enchantment school. In addition, moon elves with a Wisdom score of 15 or higher may use Charm Person once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the moon elf’s character level). This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities.

Shadow Sorcery
Moon elves with this trait have a supernatural affinity for shadow. A moon elf sorcerer with the shadow bloodline treats their Charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer class abilities and for spells with the shadow descriptor they casts. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities.

Replaces Elven Immunities, Keen Senses

Psychic Sensitivity
The world is full of strange energies, and the moon elves sometimes practice spiritual rituals to open one's mind. Moon elves with this trait gain the Psychic Sensitivity feat, gaining access to occult skill unlocks normally only available to psychic spellcasters. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities and Keen Senses.

Defensive Training
Many moon elven caravans are frequently beset by attacks from aberrations, prompting the residents to train themselves to defend against them. Moon elves gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against aberrations. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities and Keen Senses.

Frostmelding
A few rare moon elves are able to supernaturally blend with their favored cold surroundings to avoid the eyes of outsiders. Moon elves with this alternate racial trait can use Meld into Stone as a spell-like ability once per day, with a caster level equal to their character level, except that they instead meld with snow and ice and the spell duration is 1 round per level. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities and Keen Senses.

Moonkissed
Some moon elves are mystically warded from birth against dangers both mental and physical. Moon elves with this alternate racial trait gain a +1 racial bonus on saving throws. This racial trait replaces Elven Immunities and Keen Senses.

Replaces Elven Immunities, Weapon Familiarity

Nightbringer
Many moon elves revere the Moons, but some are literally infused with the radiant power of the heavens. Moon elves with this racial trait are immune to darkness-based blindness, and are treated as one level higher when determining the effects of any darkness-based spell or effect they cast (including spell-like and supernatural abilities). Moon elves with Intelligence scores of 10 or higher may use Penumbra at will as a spell-like ability. This racial trait replaces the Elven Immunities and Weapon Familiarity racial traits.

Replaces Elven Immunities, Weapon Familiarity

Poison Minion
Denizens of the Blackreaches sometimes augment their slaves and frontline warriors by making them toxic, causing their bodies to internally produce mawbane poison (see below). The resulting poisonous creature makes a potent weapon in the effort to discourage neighboring monsters. Any creature that hits such a character with a bite attack is immediately exposed to its poison. The save DC for this poison is equal to 10 + 1/2 the character’s hit dice + the character’s Constitution modifier. Moon elves can take this trait in place of Elven Immunities and Weapon Familiarity.

Mawbane Poison—ingested; save Fortitude as above; frequency 1 / round for 4 rounds; effect 1d2 Constitution damage; cure 1 save.

Replaces Keen Senses

Blackreaches Guide
Those who brave the lightless tunnels below Iolcus' surface learn to identify the dangerous phenomena that characterize the Blackreaches. Characters with this trait gain a +2 bonus on initiative checks, and on saves against traps and hazards when underground (from a lifetime of dodging accursed pools, cave-ins, and green slime). Moon elves can take this trait in place of Keen Senses.

Sure Step
Adventurers can spend their whole careers in the tunnels of the Blackreaches. Characters with this trait suffer no movement penalties when blinded or moving in darkness. Moon elves can take this trait in place of Keen Senses.

Word Weaver
Naturally sociable and eager to learn from other races, moon elves are able to weave through the verbal battlefield with ease. Moon elves with this racial trait may choose either Bluff or Diplomacy as a class skill, and gain a +2 bonus on such skill checks. This racial trait replaces Keen Senses.

Replaces Blessings of Estella

Frost Stalker
Rough-hewn tundra and slippery ice are treacherous to navigate. Moon elves with this racial trait may move through difficult terrain without penalty while in cold terrain. In addition, moon elves with a Dexterity of 13 or higher gain Nimble Moves as a bonus feat. This racial trait replaces Blessings of Estella.

Replaces Weapon Familiarity

Dimdweller
Characters with this trait are at home in gloomy conditions. Whenever these characters benefit from concealment or full concealment due to darkness or dim light, they gain a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate, Perception, and Stealth checks. Moon elves can take this trait in place of Weapon Familiarity.

Voice in the Darkness
Prerequisite: Charisma 13+. Characters who practice coercion and intimidation in the Blackreaches learn to do so in dim light or no light at all. As long as they are in dim light or darker conditions, characters with this trait gain a +2 bonus on Intimidate and Stealth checks. Moon elves can take this trait in place of Weapon Familiarity.

Favored Class Options

  • Warpriest: Add 1/2 point to the amount of damage dealt or healed by the warpriest’s fervor ability.
