Materia
For more information on all planes, see: Planes & The Multiverse
Materia is the prosaic realm and the home of mortal life. Innumerable galaxies play host to countless stars and their planets. Yet, for all the profound wonder and diversity of life that Materia houses, strange alien gods lurk in the dark places between the stars known as the Great Beyond. Materia serves as the destination for pre-incarnate souls, each mortal life born, living, and dying before sending its spirit to Cocytus for judgment. Materia is likewise the focus of the gods, each of whom is invested in fostering their own particular portfolio among mortal worshippers and the material world at large.
Physical Description
A boundless tapestry of physical diversity, Materia's surface stretching across countless biomes and landscapes shaped by the forces of nature and magic alike. Towering mountain ranges pierce the skies, while oceans plunge into unfathomable depths teeming with life. Deserts of blistering sand give way to lush jungles, endless grasslands roll into icy tundra, and twisting caverns burrow beneath it all. No two regions are quite the same—each valley, river, or forest marked by its own climate, creatures, and mysteries—making Materia a world of endless variety and ceaseless discovery.
Government & Law
The governments of Materia are as varied as the mortals who build them, each nation reflecting the culture, values, and ambitions of its people. Some lands are ruled by hereditary monarchs in noble courts, while others are guided by councils of merchants, elected assemblies, or the iron grip of military juntas. In distant corners, theocracies rise where divine will dictates law, and tribal confederations thrive on kinship and tradition. These systems coexist side by side—sometimes in uneasy peace, sometimes in open conflict—forming a patchwork of power where no single form of rule defines the plane, but all together embody its boundless diversity.
Inhabitants
Materia teems with life of every shape, size, and origin—its inhabitants are a kaleidoscope of mortal races, beasts, monsters, and other strange beings. Among the more familiar are humanoids like humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs, goblins, and tieflings, each with their own cultures, histories, and magical heritages. There are also monstrous humanoids and dark races whose societies often thrive in harsher domains. Beyond intelligent races, beasts roam freely: enormous apex predators, winged creatures soaring in the skies, aquatic denizens deep under the waves, insects, reptiles, and magical fey-like beings in forests or hidden glades. Celestials, fiends, undead, constructs, plants, elementals, and dragons also claim territories across the plane. Together they form a teeming, shared world—sometimes in harmony, but often in conflict.
