Essential components are physical artifacts or machine parts that have been imbued with Essence to serve specific purposes or accomplish specific tasks. The creation of Essential components is an important and popular use of Windcraft. The limitations of Essence generally require that Essential components be meticulously crafted by hand, although Strikkonian scientists are attempting to engineer a means of mass producing them. A person who specializes in making Essential components is often referred to as a Spellsmith.
