Before the Curse
Before the Barzul Disease, Ramshorn had been a place of unions, the "rulers", a term used sparsely, being comprised of the better spoken folk who's primary job was to be the ones to see that the Land Lords were pleased with the ore given to them and that the workers were well compensated.
Land Lords were royals or "Dragon Hordes", as was known by the general populous, who would regularly do business with the folk of Ramshorn. Business consisted of copper, iron, and any other precious metals that were deemed valuable to their respective Lord.
The people of Ramshorn were beginning to set aside some money and pour their efforts into a special branch of Alchemy that changes one ore to another. This was headed by a speaker Crag Soote; who made remarkable advancements before the first infected on Fall 21st, 3231 P.L.U.
During the Barzul Disease
Despite the disease, the excavation of land and ore continued; with Speakers having a miraculous boom in commitions from nearby Dragon Hordes constantly giving plans plans of trips being made that dug into the large mountains of Tho'rum's Peak. Those that haven't contracted the disease work to keep the Lords happy. Much to dismay to the workers, speakers are no longer living with the common folk, causing a slight tear in the previously strong connection. This tear will only continue to grow as Speakers were relocated to the upper ring of the quarry, above the plumes of smoke caused by the coal and other mechanical processes below.
Main Differences
Workers/Ragmen
Terrifying thing, the ragmen ar'. The funny thing is they always look so angry, y'know, but they're really just sad deep down.
Speakers
Speakers are much more fair of skin and smell of berries and flowers. They dress in a metal armor that has never seen a day of battle in its life. The suit is comprised entirely of metal and woord. The strong scented black leather that is used as bindings to hold the armor taught around the body is a strong contrast to whatever color of fabrics they wish to adorn themselves with. The purpose of this wear is to give the appearance of nobility and order to any potential customers. Speakers were given no titles, with the only change to symbolize their importance being the location of their residence. Speakers are much more diverse than the Ragmen, being composed of primarily dwarves but having a mixture of humans and elves. Speakers live on the elevated strech of land above the smoke known as the Bustling Stretch.
Speaker Brackets
Speaker groups are divided by color: The Rhylanthors are the blue, The Modorlins are red, and the Jekkinways are yellow.
Government
Ramshorn's economy is kept alive through the Speakers and the deals struck with the ones who want to buy the ore and material that the quarry can provide. There is no centralized government system, only a pool of shared values and an agreement than platinum and gold speak truer than the gods.
Before the curse, Ramshorn was much more based on the amount of respect another person has garnered as well as how much they could drink before falling over. Because of this, no taxes were paid to a single organization and work was done primarily to make the excavation of the ore much more convenient.
laws were simple and straight forward; no stealing, no killing, no yanking on another's beard, no stealing another one's wife, no stealing ore from the mines without logging it into a book first. punishments were severe and painful, with some being beaten by those you've wronged or by one of the stronger man in the town. No prison was built in Ramshorn. after the curse, the raw gold is cut up so the speakers may get more in order to have more trading power when they need to use money to persuade a buyer. No guards either.
