House of Wounds

The House of Wounds is the common name for all places focused on healing on Mars. In major cities the Houses are large and make use of more advanced equipment. More rural areas are smaller and rely on natural and traditional healing techniques. Unlike many aggressive cultures most Martian's do not avoid medical attention out of pride. Many Martians are ruthlessly practical and any injury has the possibility of becoming deadly in the desert. The House of Wounds are typically for more serious injuries, illnesses, or mental maladies. Most hatchlings are taught basic healing knowledge by their clutch parents. Much of Martian healing focuses on making use of natural plants and various useful fauna. Martians who seek employment at the House of Wounds are typically worshipers of La-Maia. Violence is strictly frowned upon in the House of Wounds although there is no need for guards to enforce any rules. Atypical of many healers, Martian healers have no qualms about violence and are often more dangerous than the average Martian due to their increased knowledge of the body. Their fighting styles favor unarmed combat as it allows them greater control of a fight. Most Houses of Wounds charge a fee for their assistance which is used for the purchase of supplies and the training of new healers. Most Houses of Wounds have some form of a shrine to their patron goddess La-Maia. Offerings are made daily for the goddess' blessing on the House. Architecture in Houses focuses on practicality and natural light. Houses are kept extremely clean and is one of the few places on Mars that uses water as well as sand for cleaning.
