Halls of Kyrgis
The Halls of Kyrgis is a large temple complex dedicated to Kyrgis located in Foggenburg. A large portal made of rich ornamented stonework leads into the compound. Surrounding a central courtyard stand seven buildings, six minor halls and the central temple. The courtyard houses a rough and wild looking garden area full of crooked trees and patches of herbs. Right in the middle, a large well is located. The water is crystal clear and surprisingly tastes like wild berries.
The minor halls are used to tend the sick and wounded, the halls dedicated to different kinds of infliction. In this way the infectious can be seperated from the wounded, the dying from the ones recovering. There is a healer for five of the buildings who is supported by a small staff, all of them living outside of the temple. At least two of the healers are on the premise at all times in case of medical emergencies. The staff lives in one of the halls. All the healers and their helping hands are paid by the donations of relatives of those tended inside the halls.
The five halls treating patients are similarly structured. Large, wooden double doors lead into a large central area. The floors are covered by mosaics depicting scenes of healing and symbols of the godess Kyrgis. Along the walls small alcoves separated by woolen curtains contain wooden beds for the sick. In the center there is a big fireplace with a central chimney. It is used for boiling water, drying herbs and heating the place. In the back of the hall there are cabinets containing the tools of trade and a small resting area for the staff and the healer. Everything is smelling of burnt incense, covering up the taint of sickness.
During normal times each hall houses around fourteen patients, many more during times of crisis. The halls treat people almost without discrimination though no one can deny money donated to the Halls of Kyrgis makes a difference. The healers are very well educated in the art of healing and the treatment works well above the usual success rate. So it is no wonder many people appeal to the Halls to be treated. The clergy of Kyrgis tends to the spiritual health of the patients, helping along with the well being.
