Green Blossom Condition in Into the Wild | World Anvil

Green Blossom

The green Blossom is a gruesome disease. It starts with a bright-green and yellow spot that grows. Later on, additional spots appear and start to grow into soft leathery pustules that rupture and set free a green cloud of spores that is mildly contagious.

Over time, all the skin gets soft and spongous, starting to rip and tear with the slightest provocation, triggering pain and leading the way to secondary infections and gangrene. This is the most common cause of death after infection with the green blossom.

The disease can be treated with certain kinds of herbs and tinctures in the early stages, once the pustules have appeared and ruptured the victim is beyond saving by normal means. The aggressiveness of the disease seems to vary, being much more contagious and faster out in the Wild.

The disease usually doesn't spread from human-to-human contact, so it's very hard to predict when one might get infected.   The first recorded case of green blossom was among some refugees from a failed village near the mountains just west of where Caylans Gorge now lies. The original settlers were almost wiped out by something they called “Green Crones”. They blamed this mysterious plague on them. Since then, the disease has been known as the Green Blossom. There have been outbreaks every decade since.
