Mars

Mars, also known as Sol IV, or Trekiana to the Yictan, is the fourth planet of the Sol System within the Orion Arm of the Milkyway Galaxy. Mars is the second largest human colony in the Sol System with an estimated population of 1,578,921,094 residents, it was also the first interplanetary colony to be established in 2038 by the Mars Colonial Project; as well as the first planet with ‘alien’ ruins some fifty miles from the central city of Xouis. The discovery of these ruins was a huge milestone for humanity, though no one has yet to translate the writings found there.

Government and politics

Mars is an independent parliamentary constitutional republic. The Martian government has maintained a stable liberal republican political system under its constitution since the Independence Act of 2388. The Martian system of government combines elements derived from the political systems of a fused executive, constitutional republic, strong party discipline, federalism, a written constitution and strong bicameralism with an elected upper and lower house, along with distinctive indigenous features. The government is divided into three main branches, the executive (the president, prime minister, and cabinet departments), the Legislative (Parliament), and the Judiciary.

LGBT Rights on Mars

On Mars, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people face legal and social challenges not experienced by others. Although sexual activity between same-sex couples has been legal since 2586, homosexuality is disapproved of by most Martians, and same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are ineligible for the legal protections available to opposite-sex couples. Mars, while providing discrimination protections for LGBT people, does little to prevent hate crimes based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
