MA45 body armor

MA45 Body Armor is a type of protective armor used by members of the United Space Command Marine Corps and Army to ensure their safety during combat. The armor is designed to provide maximum protection against ballistic threats, such as bullets and shrapnel. The MA45 Body Armor is commonly used in conjunction with the M47C helmet for additional ballistic protection. This combination provides complete protection for the head and torso, two of the most vulnerable areas when exposed to combat conditions.   The MA45 Body Armor is made of high-quality materials, including Kevlar and ceramic plates. Kevlar is a strong and durable material that can absorb the impact of bullets and shrapnel. Ceramic plates are used to provide additional protection against high-velocity rounds, which can penetrate traditional body armor. The armor is designed to be lightweight and comfortable, allowing the wearer to move freely and rapidly during combat. The armor also has adjustable straps to ensure a snug fit, allowing the wearer to move comfortably without compromising safety.

Design Details

MA45 body armor is a designation encompassing at least two versions of general-use protective torso-wear primarily utilized by the USC Marine Corps.

First variant

The MA45 body armor has a long history and has undergone several modifications over the years. The first version of this armor was introduced to the Marines in 2687, during the early stages of the Battle of Io and the Battle of Titan. This original design is made up of a chest plate and backplate assembly, with supplementary abdominal and lower-back plates designed to provide maximum coverage to the torso.   The chestplate and backplate are characterized by their relatively square shape and shallow, shaped cut-outs. The chestplate extends up to either side of the wearer's collar and over the trapezius, eliminating the need for prominent buckles or straps. Similarly, the abdomen plate links with the lower backplate around the wearer's side. The chest, abdominal, and lower-back plates also have varying configurations of pouches affixed to them. Unlike more modern versions of the MA45, this initial design did not have a vest layer between the plating and the wearer's uniform. It also lacked integrated pauldrons, although separate pauldrons were typically worn with the armor, along with their own distinct strapping system. Despite this, the plating assemblies did feature a secondary inwards-facing material layer.   While this first version of the MA45 body armor may not boast all the advanced features of its more modern counterparts, it provided critical protection to Marines and Army personnel during its time in service. Over the years, the armor has undergone several modifications to improve comfort, mobility, and overall protection. Today, the MA45 remains an essential part of the military's arsenal, providing vital protection to soldiers in dangerous situations.

Second variant

The MA45 body armor is a piece of protective equipment worn by military personnel to safeguard themselves from injuries and keep them safe during hazardous missions. The second version of the MA45 body armor is an advanced piece of military equipment designed to provide maximum protection to the user while keeping them comfortable, allowing them to have a range of motion to carry out tasks.   Weighing around 14.5 pounds (6.58 kilograms), the second version of the MA45 body armor features a heavy chestplate that has a layered surface for optimal protection against ballistic threats. The chestplate is secured on the user's backplate through buckled straps that run over the trapezius to provide support. Moreover, the armor has connectors under the arms, an additional buckle centrally located at the bottom of the chestplate, making it more comfortable for the user to move about without any hindrance. The armor has a vest of flexible black material covering the entire torso and partially running down the upper-arms, taking care of any vulnerable spots. The arm coverage of the vest extends over the outwards-facing portion of the arm, which is strapped over the underside, and features integrated pauldron assemblies for additional protection.   The armor has a raised brown-colored patch of additional material over the stomach region that tapers into groin protection, which is well-suited for the user during operations that may involve crawling or diving. The abdomen plate is absent, giving the user a range of motion and making it easier to perform tasks. The second version of MA45 body armor features an extended collar around the side and back of the neck, providing additional protection during close combat. A flat-topped discolored plate located at the bottom of the back has two attachment rings on it, making it easier to connect other equipment.

Performance

Performance-wise, the MA45 armor is lightweight and durable, capable of sustaining surprising amounts of damage before buckling. The pockets and pouches which are often affixed to MA45 body armor systems are an efficient method of storage for sufficiently sized items.
