M47C helmet

The M47C Helmet is a vital piece of equipment for members of the USC Marine Corps, USC Army, and USC Air Force. This combat helmet has been in service since the Second Nuclear War and is an integral component of the Marine and Army Battle Dress Uniforms. Its development was a joint effort between Northern Defense Corporation and Mars Corps Armory.   While the specific details of their involvement are not known, it is known that Northern Defense Corporation played a part in the development of the M47C Helmet. It is possible that Mars Corps Armory either manufactures the helmet instead of Northern Defense, or in addition to them. Despite its age, the M47C Helmet remains a crucial piece of protection for combat professionals. It has gone through several iterations over the years, but it still remains a staple in modern warfare. Its effectiveness against various threats, from ballistic to environmental, has been proven time and time again, making it a reassuring presence for those in harm's way.

Design Details

The standard helmet worn by USC military personnel weighs approximately 4 lbs or 1.8 kg. The helmet is usually painted in olive drab when worn with the Marines' MA45 body armor. In the case of other body armor models, the color of the helmet is painted to match the body armor. The Army typically paints the helmet in tan, dust gray, or olive drab, and medics' helmets feature a caduceus. Air Force pilots' helmets are painted in a dull brown color similar to those worn by many Marines.   The modern helmet comes equipped with several features like a heads-up display visor or ballistic goggles, which can be polarized either orange or black. The helmet also can be fitted with a boom microphone and a tactical flashlight. In addition, an accessory clip can be used to mount a night vision device. The basic Army configuration of the helmet includes a chin strap, but it is typically not worn by Marines. In colder environments, balaclavas are often worn with the helmet for added warmth. Sometimes, they are also worn in temperate and desert climates. The Marine Corps stencils the wearer's name on the back of the helmet, though this is not always the case.   The helmet has several nicknames among the USC military personnel - "coconut," "lid," "can," and "pasta shell." Overall, the helmet has evolved over time to provide maximum protection to the personnel wearing it, keeping up with the dynamic nature of modern-day warfare.

One of the notable features of the MCJ859 is its capability to be used in conjunction with vacuum suits during extra-vehicular activity. It is also a crucial component of the Marine Corps' Atmospheric/Exoatmospheric (A/X) BDU, providing protection against environmental hazards and bombardment during terrestrial combat.   Furthermore, this enclosed helmet is standard issue for pilots of the Army's SH-298 Golden Eagle and F-85 Rapier fighters. It can also be used together with EXCALIBER armor for added protection, and its mouthpiece moves in tandem with the lower jaw, allowing for effortless communication between the user and others.
