Hierarchy Armed Forces

The Caniic Hierarchy Armed Forces are the military forces of the Caniic Hierarchy. The armed forces consists of five service branches: the Army and Navy, the Sword Masters Corps, the Air Force, the Space Corps, and the Peace Guard. The Governor-General of the Hierarchy is the commander of the armed forces and forms military policy with the Department of the Military and the Department of Tíreian Security, both Tier-3 hierarchy executive departments, acting as the principal organs by which military policy is carried out. All five armed services are among the five uniformed services of the Caniic Hierarchy.

From their inception during the Last Emperor War, the Hierarchy Armed Forces have played a decisive role in the history of the Hierarchy. They helped forge a sense of unity and identity through victories in the Sauruanian Contact War. They played a critical role in the Acluthian Civil War, keeping the Coshar states from seceding from the Hierarchy collective. The Planetary Security Act of 2022, adopted following the aftermath of the Colonization Wars, created the modern Hierarchy military framework. The Act established the Military Establishment, headed by the administrator of the military; and created the Hierarchy Space Corps.

The Caniic Hierarchy Armed Forces are the largest military force in terms of personnel, equipment, vehicles, aircraft, and starships. They draw their personnel from caniic youth upon the tenth birthday. Although conscription is not forced, it is expected that all caniic, male and female, serve for no more then twenty-five years.

The Caniic Hierarchy Armed Forces are considered Tíreia's most powerful military. The military budget of the Hierarchy was 893 billion Hierarchy dollars in 2721, the highest compared to the forces of the Tigriic Republican Guard, or the Sauruanian Royal Navy. In 2720, that accounted for 48 percent of Tíreia's defense expenditures. The Hierarchy Armed Forces has significant capabilities in both defense and power projection due to its large budget, resulting in advanced and powerful technologies which enables a widespread deployment of the force across the Thilt system, including around 2000 military bases outside Tíreia. The Hierarchy Air Force is Tíreia's largest air force while the Army and Navy followed by the Space Corps combined are second and third respectively in global rankings of aviation fleet size. The Hierarchy Army and Navy is Tíreia's largest army and navy by tonnage. The Hierarchy Peace Guard is Tíreia's 2nd largest maritime force. The Hierarchy Space Corps is Tíreia's #1 active independent space force.

Structure

The Goveror-General's command over the Hierarchy Armed Forces is established in Article II in the Constitution whereby the governor-general is named as the "Commander in Chief of the Military of the Caniic Hierarchy, when called into the actual Service of the Caniic Hierarchy." The Caniic Hierarchy Armed Forces are split between two governorate departments, with the Department of the Military serving as the primary governorate department for military affairs and the Department of Tíreian Security responsible for administering the Hierarchy Peace Guard.   The military chain of command flows from the Governor-General of the Caniic Hierarchy to the administator of the military (for services under the Military Department) or administrator of Tíreian security (for services under the Department of Tíreian Security), ensuring civilian control of the military. Within the Department of the Military, the military departments (Department of the Army and Navy, Department of the Sword Masters Corps, and Department of the Air Force) are civilian led entities that oversee the coequal military service branches organized within each department. The military departments and services are responsible for organizing, training, and equipping forces, with the actual chain of command flowing through the combatant commands.   The United Chiefs of Command is the highest ranking body within the Hierarchy Armed Forces. The Chairman of the United Chiefs of Command presides over the military with authority, and acts as counsel to both the governor-general and security council on all military matters. They are assisted by a Vice Chairman. other members include the chief of command of the Army and Navy, chief of command of the Sword Masters Corps, chief of command of the Air Force, chief of space operations, and the chief of the Peace Guard. The chief of the Peace Guard is not an official member of the United Chiefs, but attends meetings as the one of the military service chiefs. The Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman is the most senior enlisted member in the Hierarchy Armed Forces.   Leadership of the Armed Forces, to include the governor-general of the Hierarchy, Administrator of the Military, Administrator of Tíreian Security and Chairman of the United Chiefs of Command are members of the Caniic Hierarchy International Security Council, which advises the governor-general on international security, military, and foreign policy matters.

Combatant commands

The Caniic Hierarchy Armed Forces are organized into a number of combatant commands whose purpose is to enable unified action for the military service branches in joint operations. These commands facilitate the integration of forces from multiple services, allowing for a unified response across different operational domains. Each service organizes, trains, and equips forces that are then presented to the combatant commands through service component commands. Special Operations Command and Space Command also present theater special operations commands or joint force headquarters – space to other combatant commanders. Army and Navy components are typically dual-hatted as the joint force land and maritime components, and Air Force components are typically dual-hatted as the joint force air component, with the theater special operations command dual-hatted as the joint force special operations component, and Space Force component typically dual-hatted as the joint force space component.

Service overview

On induction into boot camp, caniic are subdivided into cadres based on their estimated aptitude and measured performance in school. The initial year (“boot camp”) consists of demanding weapons training, drills, and further team-building exercises. There’s also a classroom component - as legal adults who are no longer under the supervision of their parents, boot camp inductees are goven adult life classes -- household budgeting, cooking, and sex education. Recruits are routinely monitored throughout the initial training year in order to further evaluate what role they’d best play in the Hierarchy military. Individuals are generally presented with a list of recommended roles that their supervisors feel would suit them best upon graduating from boot camp -- recruits aren’t under any legal obligation to select a recommended role, but strong caniic cultural emphasis on self-sacrifice ensures that most will accept one of their recommended posts.   At 35, caniic have one of two options: remain in the military or retire from active duty and attempt to build a career. Most caniic who take the latter option use their peer connections and recommendations from their officers to secure jobs in the vast Hierarchy military-industrial complex. A crack marksman, for example, might secure a job as a consultant on sniper rifles. When a caniic is promoted within a corporation, they typically send a commendation to the Hierarchy which raises the caniic’s citizenship tier accordingly. Others opt for graduate school, especially those who are interested in politics, education, medicine, or research positions. Hierarchy citizens normally qualify for a substantial tier promotion once completing an advanced degree. The exact promotion usually varies slightly based on their performance in school, but most gain around 5 tiers for the successful completion of a master’s level program and 10 tiers for a doctorate. Although caniic university programs in the arts and most of the social sciences excepting history are the stuff of punchlines (and in some cases they lack such programs entirely), they consistently rank at or near the top in the applied sciences, especially in engineering, military science, surgical and emergency medicine, and other “hands-on” subjects. The media in Hierarchy space also praise these universities for the enthusiasm of the research mentors, and their commitment to developing the ‘whole person’; all students, caniic or not, need to pass core classes in survival skills, caniic morality, and physical education. Students of caniic universities graduate fit, well-connected individuals, and with little tolerance for (or, more cynically, understanding of) the academic backroom politics common in the other species.   Regardless of their exact career path, most caniic remain registered in the reserves after retiring from active duty, as society generally expects most adults in this age bracket to serve in some capacity. If a caniic is severely injured on the front lines during active duty, he is still typically able (and willing) to adapt to a support role in the reserves. Their experience is generally like most present-day Americans in the reserve-most undergo one weekend of training per month when not on active duty.

Service branches

The Hierarchy Armed Forces is composed of five coequal military service branches. Four of the branches, the Army and Navy, the Sword Master Corps, the Air Force, and the Space Corps are organized under the Department of the Military's military departments. The Hierarchy Peace Guard is nominally under the Department of Tíreian Security, but may be transferred to the Department of Military's Department of the Army and Navy (which is the civilian entity that oversees the Hierarchy Army and Navy) at the direction of the governor-general. With the exception of the Peace Guard, the military services only organize, train, and equip forces. The combatant commands are responsible for operational control of non-service retained forces.   Each of the different military services is assigned a role and domain. The Hierarchy Army conducts land and sea operations, while the Sword Masters Corps oversees the historical accounting for military records and specializes in amphibious and maritime littoral operations in support of the Army and Navy. The Hierarchy Air Force conducts air operations, while the Hierarchy Space Corps conducts space operations. The Hierarchy Peace Guard is unique in that it is a military branch specializing in land and maritime operations and is also a law enforcement agency.

Army and Navy

The Hierarchy Army and Navy is the Hierarchy Armed Forces' land and sea force and is the largest and oldest service. Originally established in 1903 as the Confederation Army, it consists of over five million soldiers and eight million naval forces across the Regular Army and Navy. The Army and Navy serves as the Armed Forces principal land and sea service, responsible for conducting land and naval warfare operations.   The Hierarchy Army and Navy is organized under the Department of the Army and Navy, which is a military department under the leadership of the administrator of the Army and Navy and assistant administrator of the Army and Navy. The Hierarchy Army and Navy itself is led by the chief of command of the Army and Navy and vice chief of command of the Army and Navy, both are either advised by the Master Marshel Sergeant of the Army or Marshel Chief Naval Officer of the Navy.   The Army and Navy's primary responsibility is to conduct prompt and sustained land and sea combat as part of the joint force. Army and Navy land and seapower focuses on destroying an enemy's armed forces, blockading its ports, occupying its territory, and breaking the will of an adversary.   The five core competencies of the Army and Navy are:

Prompt and sustained land and sea combat

Combined arms operations:

  • 1) Combined arms maneuver and wide area security
  • 2) Armored and mechanized operations
  • 3)Airborne and air assault operations

Special operations

Set and sustain the theater for the joint force

Integrate national, multinational, colonial and joint power on land and sea

Infantry and naval surface forces

The Infantry and naval surface forces Branch forms the core of the service's land and sea combat power. Hierarchy Army and Navy infantry and naval forces are generally equipped with the XK100 photon carbine and X23 light-photon rifle.
