Galactic News Network

Galactic News Network (GNN) is an American multicolonial news media company and one of the five major news networks operating across Human-controlled space. The network was founded in 2057 following the collapse and dissolution of its predecessor, the Cable News Network (CNN). Established initially as a standard broadcast service headquartered in the United States, GNN gradually expanded into an interplanetary media network as human civilization spread beyond Earth and across the Sol system and nearby colony systems. By the late 21st century the organization had transitioned from a conventional cable broadcaster into a distributed communications network capable of delivering continuous news coverage across multiple colonies.   GNN operates as a 24-hour news and information service, providing live coverage of political developments, military affairs, scientific discoveries, and social events across the expanding sphere of human civilization. Its programming includes real-time reporting from Earth, Mars, Venus, the Jovian colonies, and numerous inner and outer colony systems, as well as analysis programs, investigative journalism, and public affairs broadcasts. The network became particularly influential during the early colonial era, when reliable communication between distant settlements was still developing and centralized information sources were limited. As human populations spread across dozens of systems and colonies, media institutions such as GNN played a critical role in maintaining shared awareness of events occurring throughout human space, which by the 28th century includes billions of people living across numerous planets.   By the mid-22nd century, GNN had evolved into one of the primary media institutions within human society, broadcasting through a combination of planetary communication networks, and satellite relays. Its coverage extended beyond domestic American politics to include reporting on UNF politics, colonial administrations, corporate activities, and major conflicts affecting human worlds. Programming is distributed in multiple formats, including planetary broadcast channels, encrypted government feeds, and civilian networks accessible across human-controlled systems. Although headquartered on Earth, GNN maintains regional media centers throughout major population centers throughout both inner and outer colony systems.   Like many large news organizations, GNN has been subject to recurring criticism from political groups, governments, and advocacy organizations regarding perceived editorial bias, narrative framing, and the influence of corporate or governmental interests on reporting, particularly in regards to the United Space Command and its intelligence branch, the Office of Space Intelligence. Supporters, however, have often credited the network with maintaining one of the most comprehensive continuous news coverage systems available within human space.
