B-28 Claymore

The B-28 Suborbital Long-Range Bomber, commonly known as the Claymore is an atmospheric strategic bomber produced by Mars Corps Armory. It is fielded by USC Air Force reserve units and was formerly operated by the Navy and Marine Corps. Claymores are closely similar to the old Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk platforms.

Specifications

Design details

The B-28 Claymore is designed primarily as a fighter, though it can also be used for interception, suppression, bombing, or direct attack. There are a number of variants of the craft, with some variants measuring 64 meters (210 feet) long and 75 meters (246 feet) wide. Their crew sizes can vary between two and four individuals; the crew may be assisted by an onboard artificial intelligence. While there are several noticeable external and presumably internal differences among variants, all Claymores share a common overall architecture. The craft features a wide, manta ray-like design with a rear-facing boom apparatus protruding from the center of the fuselage, similar to that of the B-28 Claymore bomber. The exhaust ports for the Claymore's twin fusion engines are also visible at the rear of the fuselage.

Armament

The B28 is typically armed with conventional bombs for performing carpet bombing runs. When releasing its payload, the Claymore "punches" its munitions into the ground; the munitions then explode a short time later. As the bombs detonate in the order in which they are dropped, carpet bombing runs carried out by the Claymore resemble twentieth-century napalm strikes. Bombers equipped with the MCODAS delivery system can carry less conventional payloads such as the LK-875 disruption bomb or the XZ-1268 "cryo" bomb. Claymores are additionally equipped with M110 30mm machine-linked autocannons that fires 30mm projectiles.
