Design details

Achilles class battleships are a sight to behold, standing at an impressive 8800 feet in length and 500 feet in width. Their height reached 380 feet, making it one of the largest and most intimidating vessels built by Frostfire Industries. The ships' exterior is made of a combination of tungsten and steel, meant to withstand any attacks thrown its way. They are equipped with advanced sensor systems that included a radar/lidar detection system and computer and AI navigational systems to aid in the traveling through space.   The Achilles class battleships are powered by a six-reactor power plant, fueled by nuclear fuel rods and a fusion reactor. They also have multiple engines, including sublight engines, maneuvering thrusters, and 2-Ward Translight Hyperspace Engines, allowing them to travel at speeds of up to 250,000 miles per second. The ships are protected by Mark-V generators and have a variety of weapons, including cruise missiles, nuclear missiles, and a Magnetic Mass Accelerator Cannon main gun, which is capable of firing projectiles at incredible speeds.   In addition to the main weapon systems, the Achilles class battleships also come equipped with 21 200mm defense guns, providing pin-point accuracy and covering fire for the ship's escort fighters and bombers. The ship can carry a complement of 35 Interceptor Fighters, 20 Bombers, 20 tanks, troop carriers, ATVs, and three dropships. The ship's artificial gravity and inertia damping generators ensure that the crew and equipment remain stable even during high-speed travel.   Despite its impressive capabilities, the Achilles class battleship does have a critical weakness between the reactors that can cause a chain reaction of explosions, earning the ship its famous moniker, "Achilles' Heel." To prevent this, the ship's engineers have implemented strict safety protocols and maintenance routines to keep the reactors in optimal condition.

Armament

Achilles class battleships are the second most heavily armed vessels in the United Space Command fleet. As mentioned before, they are equipped with a Magnetic Mass Accelerator Cannon main gun, which can fire projectiles at incredible speeds and cause massive damage to any target they hit.   The ships are also equipped with cruise missiles and nuclear missiles, which can be used for attacking enemy ships or planets. The missiles are launched from multiple missile silos located around the ship. With these weapons at its disposal, the Achilles class battleship can quickly take out any enemy force it encounters.   In addition to their main weaponry, Achilles class battleships are also equipped with 21 200mm defense guns, which are positioned all around each ship and provide cover fire for the fighter and bomber squadrons that they carry. These guns are the ship's first line of defense against smaller attacking ships and fighters, and can quickly turn the tide of the battle in their favor.   The ship's complement of fighter and bomber squadrons are another key aspect of its arsenal. The 35 Interceptor Fighters are designed for close range engagements and dogfighting, while the 20 Bombers are meant for long-range bombing runs and taking out larger enemy ships. The tank, troop carrier, and ATV squadrons are meant for ground assaults and securing enemy territory, while the dropships are used to transport troops and equipment to and from the ship.

Propulsion

Achilles class battleships are equipped with multiple engines to ensure its speed and maneuverability through space. Their sublight engines provide the ship with the necessary thrust to travel at high speeds within a star system, while the maneuvering thrusters allow it to make quick turns and adjust its position in space.   However, the most impressive of the Achilles' engines are the 2-Ward Translight Hyperspace Engines, which allow the ship to travel at speeds of up to 250,000 miles per second. These engines create a hyperspace bubble around the ship, allowing it to travel through space faster than the speed of light.   To power all of these engines, the Achilles class battleships are equipped with a six-reactor power plant that utilizes both nuclear fuel rods and a fusion reactor. This power plant ensures that the ship has enough energy to power all of its systems, including its weapons and artificial gravity generators. The ship's engineers have implemented strict safety protocols and maintenance routines to keep the reactors in optimal condition, minimizing the risk of a disastrous explosion.

Crew

Achilles class battleships requires a massive crew to operate and maintain its numerous systems and weapons. The ship's crew complement includes 1,200 officers and 4,800 enlisted personnel, making it one of the largest crewed vessels in the United Space Command fleet.   The crew is divided into several departments, each responsible for a specific aspect of the ship's operation. The ship's bridge is where the commanding officer, executive officer, and other key officers command the ship and coordinate its actions. The engineering department is responsible for maintaining the ship's engines, reactors, and other critical systems. The weapons department operates and maintains the ship's weapons systems, including the main gun, missiles, and defense guns. The science department is responsible for gathering and analyzing data about the ship's surroundings and detecting any potential threats. The medical department ensures the health and well-being of the crew, while the logistics department manages the ship's supplies and provisions.   The crew of an Achilles class battleship is highly trained and skilled, undergoing rigorous training and simulations to prepare them for any situation they may encounter. Their ability to work together and respond quickly and efficiently in high-pressure situations is critical to the success of the ship's missions. Despite the dangers and challenges they may face, the crew of each Achilles class battleship is dedicated to their mission and to each other, knowing that they rely on each other for survival.

Superstructure (Armor)

Achilles class battleships boasts a formidable superstructure that is designed to withstand even the most intense attacks. The ship's outer hull is made of a complex layering of advanced alloys and composites, which provide superior protection against enemy fire and other hazards of space travel.   The ship's armor is further reinforced by an energy shielding system, which creates a protective barrier around the ship that can deflect incoming projectiles and energy weapons. This shield system is powered by the ship's reactors and can be adjusted to provide maximum protection in even the most intense combat situations.   In addition to its armor and shielding, the Achilles class battleship is also equipped with a variety of defensive counterment systems asures. The ship's electronic countermeasures (ECM) and flares can confuse and distract enemy tracking systems, while its point defense lasers can take out incoming missiles and smaller enemy ships.   The ship's superstructure is also designed to be modular, allowing for easy repair and replacement of damaged components. This is critical for the ship's survivability in battle, as even the most well-armored ship can sustain damage in combat.

Layout

Bow section

The bow section of each Achilles class battleship is the most heavily armed part of the ship. It houses the ship's main gun, a massive 500mm cannon that can fire a variety of shells, including high-explosive, armor-piercing, and nuclear rounds. The gun's range is impressive, with a maximum effective range of over 300,000 kilometers.   The bow section also houses the ship's missile launchers, which can fire a variety of missiles, including anti-ship, anti-fighter, and nuclear missiles. Smaller defense guns are mounted on the bow section as well, providing additional protection against enemy ships and fighters.

Bridge

The bridge of an Achilles class battleship is the nerve center of the ship, where the commanding officers oversee the ship's operations and coordinate its actions. The bridge is located at the top of the ship's superstructure, providing a clear view of the surrounding space.   The bridge is heavily protected by the ship's armor and shielding, ensuring that even in the most intense battles, the commanding officers can remain safe and continue to lead the ship. The bridge is equipped with state-of-the-art sensor and communication systems, allowing the officers to receive and relay information quickly and accurately.   The bridge also houses the ship's navigation and propulsion systems, allowing the officers to adjust the ship's course and speed with precision. The ship's artificial gravity generators are also controlled from the bridge, ensuring that the crew can move around the ship comfortably and without issue.

Midsection

The midsection of an Achilles class battleship is where the ship's primary living quarters, mess hall, and recreation areas are located. It is also where the ship's medical facilities are housed, including a fully equipped sickbay and a surgical suite. In addition to the living and medical areas, the midsection also houses the ship's science labs and communication systems. The science labs are equipped with advanced equipment for conducting experiments and analyzing data, while the communication systems allow the ship to maintain contact with other ships and ground-based command centers.   The midsection is protected by the ship's armor and shielding, as well as a network of automated defense turrets and ECM systems that can take out incoming threats. The ship's logistics department is also located in the midsection, managing the ship's supplies and provisions to ensure the crew is well-fed and well-stocked for their missions. The midsection houses a number of defensive weapons, including point defense lasers and missile launchers. This allows the ship to defend itself in the event of an attack while the crew coordinates a counter-attack.

Hanger bay

The hanger bay of an Achilles class battleship is located at the sides of the ship's superstructure and houses the ship's fighters, shuttles, and other small craft. The hanger bay is designed to be spacious and well-organized, making it easy for the crew to prepare and launch their craft quickly and efficiently.   The hanger bay is heavily protected by the ship's armor and shielding, as well as a network of automated defense systems. This is critical, as the hanger bay is a prime target for enemy attack, and any damage to the bay could severely limit the ship's ability to launch and retrieve its fighters.

Stern section/engineering

The stern section of an Achilles class battleship houses the ship's engineering systems and propulsion engines. This section is critical for the ship's ability to navigate through space and complete its missions. The engineering systems are state-of-the-art and designed to withstand the rigors of space travel. They are responsible for managing the ship's power, life support, and other essential systems. The propulsion engines are powerful and efficient, allowing the ship to travel quickly and easily through space.   The stern section is not heavily armed, but it does have a number of defensive weapons, including point defense gun and missile launchers. These weapons are designed to protect the ship in the event of an attack while the crew works to repair any damage sustained. This is critical, as any damage to the engineering systems could severely limit the ship's ability to complete its mission and put the entire crew in danger. The stern section also houses the ship's maintenance areas and repair facilities, allowing the crew to quickly and efficiently repair any damage sustained in battle. The ship's modular design makes it easy to replace damaged components, ensuring that the ship can continue to operate at maximum capacity.
