The Spectre's Spire

Towards the northeastern reaches of Interitus, there stands a strange stone landmark, that no matter the time of day, no matter the amount of light shined upon it, it always offers up a shadow. It is a strange and unnatural darkness in many ways, but more importantly for the people of Interitus, the stone formation has darker meaning.   Hanging from said spire, there is often found bodies of all sorts. Thieves and bandits, finally facing justice, and even the sad sort of person, the one who realizes that the world has lost all meaning for them, that they'd be better off dead. These bodies hanging, fraying in the breeze like a broken branch of life, until the 4th day of every month.'   For you see, as the fourth day begins, the Spire then consumes all those hanging from it, growing exponentially in size. It is said that should a person not be left to hang, on the fourth day, that the spire itself shall unroot itself, move forward, and claim a victim all it's own. A simple rumor, but one that fills the commonfolk with fear, and makes them much more likely to judge harsher criminals of all kinds. But, this spire, this monument of death, still holds a secondary purpose.   Deep within the stones that make up it's foundation, there rests a spectre, impaled through the chest with the most holy of spears. If the spear were to be ripped out, the Spectre would be free to to do as it wishes, and at night, during the darkest hour of the darkest day, you can still hear the spectre. Pleading, begging, consoling. It would give up anything, for freedom.
