First Contact and Contract
First contact with an alien species was simultaneously disastrous and a saving grace for Earth.
Earth never developed a unified approach to politics and was not prepared for a planet-wide invasion. While the United Nations remained intact centuries after it was founded, players couldn’t agree on the basics of human rights, much less a unified defensive strategy against an alien invasion.
The United States collaborated with the European Space Agency, South Korea, and Taiwan to develop a collective plan for space exploration, using their combined technologies and efforts into terraforming and colonizing Mars. As Earth became more and more ruined through climate change, natural disasters, famine, and war, politicians from all countries began to view the once unstable Mars as a safe haven.
A collaborative effort between China, India, and Russia developed Earth’s technological progress towards space weapons, battle ships, and military technology. Other countries out of both space races, meanwhile, were quickly trying to utilize as much technology as possible to heal the dying planet. The United States and Europe, fearful of an attack from the growing space military countries, began researching biological weapons as means of self-defense in case of an attack. Meanwhile, people across the globe struggled to eat, famine sweeping even the wealthiest of nations.
When the Tolana invaded in 2145, they had done enough research and gathered enough intel to know it would be quick and painless. They blasted through satellites and warships, their technology much stronger, but most importantly, more united in purpose and mission. By the time they broke through the Earth atmosphere, most Earthlings surrendered immediately, some going as far as begging for help. Others went to even more extremes, claiming the Tolanas were their saviors sent from the heavens.
The Tolana drew up agreements, agreeing to assist with food and the economy in exchange for allowing the Tolana to build factories, and Earth supplying soldiers for an upcoming war with the Rhonians. Most countries had no choice but to agree. The few that refused were swiftly defeated.
