Physical Description

Body Features

Tanned, very firm body, firm all over. Not an inch of fat. Short black hair, covered underneath his haris turban.

Facial Features

Round face, bushy eyebrows, a thick beard. Looks a bit like a friendly giant.

Identifying Characteristics

The sigil on the back of his right hand - the lion representing his fealty to the malik. Also his split lip.

Special abilities

He has a pin imbued with magic - a small, jeweled thing that Zaria had gifted him when she was a young girl. It never leaves his person. It's a circle, with a small flower in the middle, royal blue, with a yellow centre. It is pinned on his qamis always. He doesn't have every kind of magic - only that which will help him protect and defend and attack. He isn't superbly skilled with the magic, but it's there if he needs it.

Apparel & Accessories

Baggy shirwal, allows movement, with leather boots that allow soft footfalls, and protection. Long sleeved qamis on top, buttoned all the way to the top (some haris don't button it the whole way). A black turban, with the royal blue silk threaded through, announcing the importance of this particular haris (the others only have black turbans). He has weapons slung across his back, and around his waist - suyuf, daggers, an axe, spears, etc.

Personal history

Trained to be the perfect haris, and given the ultimate task of keeping all the hurras in line. His official job isn't the protection of Zaria, the Heiress but he kinda takes it on board as well. Because he loves that girl like he would a daughter. Umar has basically charged himself with being her father figure, and he became the man she thought of when she thought of what a man should be - protective, caring, compassionate.

Mental Trauma

He has none. His training has made his mind as sharp as his sayf. He doesn't dwell on things, or live in the past. He's never been in love. In fact, he's not sure he even knows how to fall in love. Not romantic love anyway. But he loves Zaria, a lot. Like he would a daughter, and he finds it hard to say no to her. He's firm with everything in life, except her.

Intellectual Characteristics

He knows how to use his body - in a fight. Extremely spatially-aware. He's definitely more physical than loquacious. He doesn't have a way with words. He's rough and gruff, but respected.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Brilliant weapons-master, and fighter. Excellent leader. People listen to him. Except Zaria. He couldn't control her even if he had the magic for it. He sometimes thinks maybe he should be reassigned, but he can never bring himself to ask it. He is also inept at anything that requires deft hands - cooking, or first-aid. He has some training in first-aid, because it is necessary sometimes, but he isn't the go-to first-aid guy. He's a bit big. Oh and he sucks at using a bow and arrow. His fists and shoulders are just way too big.

Dislikes sour and sweet things. Enjoys a good weapon. Gets excited about them actually.

He cannot easily be swayed. He stands by his opinions, and is stubborn in his belief. He has an iron will. He is very friendly - to Zaria.

Vices & Personality flaws

Everyone, except Zaria, believes he is a bit scary. She thinks he's a big teddy bear. Nobody else agrees. His anger is legendary, and he roars like the lions on their flags. Also, he's a bit prejudiced - he really agrees with the malik that humans are the best race. Maybe that'll change.

His laugh sounds like he's clearing his throat. He doesn't laugh a lot. Has a severe gaze that he directs at everyone, save the amira. People avoid him, in al-Qasr, or the streets of al-Madina.

Hygiene

He bathes. And his clothes are clean. But he's not overly obsessed with cleanliness. Sometimes he doesn't brush his beard, or his hair, and sometimes his weapons tear holes through his uniform, and he doesn't get them fixed straightaway. If someone has a problem with that, they can tell him to his face. He's got more important things to worry about.

Rough, gruff. He hasn't got charisma, but he has leadership skills. He can call the hurras in line in a single moment. He doesn't use a lot of language, preferring instead to use his severe gaze.

Mannerisms

He loves crossing his arms, or leaving a hand on his weapons at his waist. Makes him feel tough. Not a touchy guy.

Hobbies & Pets

Spends most nights at the coffee and shisha houses, listening to stories told by the storytellers, watching the dancers sway. He doesn't feel attraction to anyone. It isn't in him. But he enjoys listening to the lilting music, watching the faces of the dancers as they dance to it, hearing stories of magic - making sure nobody in the congregation believes in them too much.

Speech

Booming voice, can bring anyone to their knees. He's a bit foulmouthed - not to Zaria - and his speech is kinda full of insults. Not a sweet voice to listen to.

Wealth & Financial state

He's one of the wealthier haris, as he is the leader of all the rest. He spends a lot of his wealth at the coffee and shisha houses. It helps him clear his head, after a long day. Zaria tests his patience sometimes. What's up with her sneaking out these days? It's like he's always on duty. He lives in al-Qasr, in the haris quarters in the back - separate from the other hurras and their bunks. A room of his own. No investments, no assets. His life is at al-Qasr. He will live and die there. Not sure what his retirement plan is. He doesn't think that far ahead.
