Zaria, the Heiress

Amira al-Malakia Zaria bint Zarqa (a.k.a. Z or Zed)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Zaria is fairly short, petite, though slightly chubby. She is a little bit clumsy, almost too excited to be graceful. Kinda runs around everywhere. Though she is taught to be calm and collected, sometimes her feet stumble and her hips bump into things.

Body Features

Zaria is lightly tanned - more olive-skinned, with dark brown hair. At the time of the story, her hair has been died to resemble molten lava. It's a combination of black, and fiery red. When changed back, her skin is the colour of bronze, her hair all fire.

Facial Features

Her face is love-heart shaped, with rounded cheeks, squeezable cheeks. Eyebrows are dark brown, and sleek. Her nose is petite, small, rounded. Her lips are plump, and her smile is always mischievous. She looks like a mix between a fairy, and a nymph - innocent, yet cheeky, all at once. Her eyes are circular, round, always bright, conspiratorial. Her countenance in usually happy, airy, full of life.

Identifying Characteristics

Only the hair the colour of molten lava.

Physical quirks

Right-handed, clumsy walk but with the rim-rod posture of an amira, pulls at her braid when she's thinking, doesn't like to sit still, pacing is her thing, but out of excitement rather than nervousness.

Special abilities

None. Until she's changed back of course.

Apparel & Accessories

The attire of an Arabian amira. Flowing gown, a cloak at times, a glistening tiara upon her head, oftentimes overlaid with a sheer veil (though Zaria prefers to leave that aside, restricts movement after all).

Specialized Equipment

No weapons. She couldn't use them. Her hands are too fidgety, plus she has no practice. Her contraband is the magic that she steals from her father. Pretty important!

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Zaria is one of our POV main characters. She is the current Amira, one who is rarely seen outside palace walls, and never alone. She is rebellious, not because she's trapped inside the palace - she doesn't much care about the outside world, or learning things about the world, or meeting people. She isn't a restless person. She just wants her dad's affection, and the only way she can think to get it is by rebelling.

Education

She's been taught by the kingdom's best scholars, and she shares the school lessons with her cousins, Gadi and Meriel. She doesn't love these classes, but she excels at them, because what's the point of spending so much time doing something if you're not going to get something out of it? Of course she did try rebel by not going there at all but her dad did not notice at all. She isn't taught combat, because an amira doesn't need to know that stuff, and she's almost finished her schooling. She hasn't given much thought to what she wants to do after school. An amira doesn't need to think about that she supposes.

Employment

The life of an amira.

Mental Trauma

The lack of love and affection she receives from her father, and her mother's apparent madness, has made her insecure and unsure of herself. She doesn't know who she is, who she should be, who she should want to be. Nothing she does ever seems good enough. She has no afflictions. No phobias, save all the ones every 18 year old feels, about never being loved, and dying alone.

Intellectual Characteristics

Zaria is a clever girl, with a quick wit. And, while she is insecure, with feelings of insignificance, she is still the amira, and she knows that totally. She knows her place, and can wield her power with grace, and commitment. She can feign confidence, very well. She knows her father doesn't care for her, and her mother's mind is too occupied for thoughts of her daughter, but she also knows the kingdom loves her, and she is in an elevated position. She is not spoilt, but she takes advantage of her position in life. Zaria loves music, loves to dance, but can't carry a tune to save her life. Absolutely tone-deaf, let's be real. But that doesn't stop her from singing. She is gifted with words - she can turn a phrase, was taught how in her classes. As the heir to the kingdom, the scholars took special care to teach her how to appeal to a crowd, how to catch the ears of all, how to turn a mind. Spatially, she is clumsy, and she can't dance very well. Either too stiff, or too loose. But she enjoys it all the same.

Morality & Philosophy

Her philosophical views are not something she puts much stock in. She was born, and one day she'll die, and there is a God above, but what life is like after death, she can't decide for sure. She doesn't spend much time considering it. She is afraid of death, but only as everyone else is. It isn't an anxiety for her. Though she often contemplates how she will miss life and all her things were she to die.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To get her father's attentions and affections. She will go to the ends of the earth from some form of validation, and acceptance. People are okay with the idea that they will die alone, and unloved, but she says pish-posh to that. She's going to get her dad's love if she has to pry it from his cold, dead hands. Ok, maybe not that far. But she does really want it.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Has trouble with social cues, doesn't really understand when something is appropriate or not - because she's grown up as an amira, and everyone always did what she wanted, and was ok with what she did and said. Except her dad, of course. However, she makes up for it by being exceptionally kind. She will go out of her way to help someone. But maybe not everyone needs help, eh Zaria? Seriously, she's kinda clueless. But it's hard for people to dislike her, because she's so genuinely nice. Her savvy is how well she can speak. She may seem like a bit of a ditsy amira, she may not be observant, but she can get out of almost anything with the use of her words, and wit.

Likes & Dislikes

Loves sweets, could live off them. Rice pudding is her life. Doesn't really like creepy crawlies. Whenever she sees one, she can feel it crawling all over her. Doesn't enjoy maths, or games with a lot of logical thinking, like backgammon. Doesn't like competition. The colour blue irks her, because it's all she sees when she looks at, or thinks of, her mother.

Virtues & Personality perks

Patient, happy-go-lucky, fun, bubbly. Always down for anything. Not a great listener. Kind, gentle, graceful. Definitely quick-to-act. She isn't a fan of overthinking, or looking at all angles. She gets bored if things don't happen fast. Anger does not hold her for long.

Vices & Personality flaws

Not a great listener. Difficult for her to see from other POVs. Not exactly empathetic. A desperate need to be accepted, loved. Like so desperate.

Personality Quirks

Giddy laughter. Pulls braid when thinking. Always has to be moving.

Hygiene

Immaculate hygiene. She is the amira after all. When traipsing through al-Ard al-Nahr she makes comments on how filthy her clothes and shoes and hair and everything is becoming. It disturbs her, but at the same time, it's almost nice.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Her parents are both alive, though her mother is losing more sanity as each day passes - at least Zaria thinks so. Her two cousins Gadi and Meriel. The former keeps asking him to marry her, which she finds gross - she avoids him, because she doesn't like conflict - and the latter is so sickly, she barely leaves her room. So Zaria befriends the palace workers - the haris, whose names she learns, the kitchen staff, who don't tell on her when she sneaks in for extra cake, and especially Razi, her best friend, but, technically, her servant. She also has her cousin Sami, Gadi's uncle. She likes him a lot. They have a similar playful countenance. He looks out for her. His twin sister, Sali, is intimidating, with eyes that pierce, so Zaria avoids her too. Meriel's mum is old, and Zaria has little to do with her.

Family Ties

Her parents, Gadi, Sami, Sali, Meriel, Meriel's mum.

Religious Views

She is as everyone is - a believer in the monotheistic God. But she doesn't really do much about it. She prays at communal prayers, and events, when she has to. But otherwise - she may send a prayer up every so often, if she really is in need of something. But those times rarely come. She's tried praying for her dad's affection, but that went unanswered, so she abandoned that pursuit.

Social Aptitude

Extremely charismatic, definitely. It's hard not to love her even just a little bit. Her face is so happy, it brings happiness wherever it goes. Confident in front of crowds, she knows how to speak, to turn a phrase. She hasn't got a large ego, she just knows her place, and that it is slightly elevated than most people. She doesn't flaunt it, though. But it has given her an ignorance of the way to treat people - a lack of appropriate social behaviour.

Mannerisms

She is composed when speaking, calm. Her feet may run, but her voice doesn't. No hand or arm gestures. Shoulders are always straight, pushed back.

Hobbies & Pets

No pets. Not especially good at keeping pets, to be honest. She is a little too vague for it. Her hobbies include whatever new idea she's come up with to get her dad's attention.

Speech

Though she is fidgety, and paces a lot, her voice never wavers, never stutters. She has mastered the art of speech. Never raises her voice. Though sometimes, if she is excited, her voice can get a bit high-pitched. "Don't you know who I am?" isn't something she's used often, not until the beginning of the story anyway, when her way isn't what she's getting. She loves to compliment people, hates insulting them. Never swears, doesn't talk in metaphors - her mother has made her hate them. Doesn't have a particular greeting or farewell, but her associations with people always feel like a whirlwind, because she can't keep still, and she has such bouncing energy.

Wealth & Financial state

The amira doesn't spend time thinking about money. She has more than she knows what to do with. Whenever she is allowed out of the palace, she requests a pouch of gold coins, and offers it each time she makes any sort of purchase - usually this is on the Festival Day. She doesn't make purchases often. Even if she were to, all the workers wouldn't accept payment, or they are paid by the treasurer of the palace.
