al-Madina

al-Madina is the city square that surrounds al-Qasr. There are courtyards, furnaces, bakeries, roads, all kinds of shops, restaurants. Elegant bathhouses and expensive gold shops. The streets are winding, and always loud and busy, except at night. There are clothing stories, next to shoe shops, and gold shops next to restaurants, and coffeehouses. There's an air of joviality, and crime is non-existent. Carts amble along the wide roads, delivering goods and services. There are no people selling on the streets - the weekly markets used to be a thing, but were disbanded because it caused too much of a ruckus. All selling is done inside. The only thing on the streets other than shoppers, and diners, are musicians. There are musicians at each corner - some playing the oud, like the malik, others playing the darbouka, or the flute, or a number of other intsruments. But they are employed by al-Malik. They are not buskers, or beggars. They are paid a daily fee. It adds to the air of joviality - because maybe they have magic, but shhhh. The Inqaa University & Library is also in the city square, though further away from the centre. It is is situated by the river bank, quite picturesquely. It is the schooling district. The university is connected to a school, to which only the wealthiest children attend. The library is free for anyone to use, but is placed near the university for obvious reasons. They are both enormous buildings, and cut through the skyline more than any other building, save the palace.

Demographics

All human, of course. The workers are the working class, the wanderers and shoppers are the upper class. There's also students and apprentices here.

Government

It is governed by Saleh, al Malik, al Ealia, who resides in the palace at the edge of al-Madina.

Assets

Most places here boast expensive clothes and jewellery and every other thing that they sell. There is very struct security - harms roaming all night long.

Architecture

Everything is limestone, and firebrick clay. Sturdy shops with shady stops, umbrellas big enough to cover tables. The streets are cobbled, and buildings are all perfect condition. There are no ruins or derelict places. A bridge separates al-Madina from al-Ghani, and behind al-Qasr there is another bridge that leads to the farmlands and factories, the labour district.

Geography

It is mostly a bustling city. No rolling hills. Not really any parks or anything like that. The skyline is of minarets and tall buildings. Some people live in apartments above their shops, the less wealthy people, and so those buildings are taller than others.
