The Forgotten City

Nestled in the Northeast corner of the continent, the Forgotten City holds a place in all the cultural lore of the land. A great, ancient empire ruled from this vast city. Now, however, the whole area is void of any permanent settlements and what life does make a home here is rarely seen and commonly avoided. A few nomadic caravans pass through the old roads for an annual rite held on a small island off the coast, but they avoid camping within 50 lengths of the city limits. The original name of the city is lost to history, though some stories claim the name was lost intentionally. The Vellmary people of the Northwest, who claim to be original descendents of the Forgotten Empire, call the city Vellmyra to honor their heritage but do not claim this as the original name. Nor do the Vellmary visit the city for any purpose. The layout and architecture of the Vellmary capital city of Ryvershore bears resemblence to the Forgotten City, further supporting the Vellmary's claim to descent due to the city's age (at least 900 Sun Cycles for some parts). For the rest of the continent, The Forgotten City holds a place of mystery, magic, and fear in the legends. Who ever the people were and whatever they ruled does not change the scars left on the land. The Bone Forest (a huge forest of long-dead trees that do not fall and do not burn) surrounds and protects the ruins. Monsters and aberrations lurk about the forest and feed when they can on brave travellers.
