At the very lowest point of Vaahd Knulheim is a metal seal that sits in the hole that opens up into ‘the nothing.’ The dwarfs just don’t know what the nothing is anymore. Appears to be made of a deep black metal that looks perfectly smooth, but feels rough to the touch.
