Arcanapox

A festering plague that infects much of the surviving animals of the Arcanic Wastes. While not contracted by most humanoids through normal means, it can be contracted by consuming the meat of an infected animal. This magical parasite attaches to the brain, brainstem, or spine and leeches magical power from its victim. It weakens the power of any magic user that is infested by it and causes them extreme phycological trauma if magic is used. However, if the host has no magic to feast on then it will begin to try to take over the mind of its host and if not cured will eventually take complete control.
For D&D purposes it halves spell slots and the caster takes 2d8 physic damage when casting a spell.
