Cleave-shovel

This weapon has several uses. The handle is forged bronze. The main shovel blade is two pieces of mild steel with more robust carbon steel in-between. This construction makes the tool easier to swing while giving the hard biting edge that the weapon needs. In addition, the bronze handle encases the blade with rivets and provides some extra momentum weight.
Besides, bronze is antibacterial.

The more mature, seasoned Orc Warriors can dual wield these weapons. Anything or anyone within 2.5 m of such an Orc can be considered broken and destroyed. Highly trained veterans of this Kata method tend to run simultaneously to clear a path for smaller troops. Approach only if appropriately armed.

Manufacturing process

The steel requires forge welding of the various steels. The rivet holes are hot punched, and the rivets are hot set. The Bronze is decorated with a clan or family emblem. Great pride is taken in designing these tools, and it is one of the first tools an apprentice blacksmith makes. When at War, a less decorated, highly aerodynamic version is mass-produced to precise dimensions.

History

Since the Rebel base is in the North Pole, where there is much Ice and snow, the need for a multi-tool/weapon became essential. Whether on the hunt for animals for food or Ice for building, this item helps out. It allows the user to shovel away snowdrifts and pierce dense Ice. The saw is excellent for cutting Ice blocks used in building shelters and animal bones. The whole tool can be used one-handed as a chopping axe or two-handed in a spear thrusting action.

The design of this weapon has been honed so closely that the balance is perfect for throwing. Like a spear, it is remarkably fearsome and ranges 10 m. It may be the metal combination or the aerodynamics of the blade, but even an armoured Knight will be stabbed by this spear if struck. An unarmoured person will be mortally wounded if hit by one. It will undoubtedly cleave any limb clean away if an extremity is hit.

Significance

A convenient and efficient weapon in the hands of a trained Dog Soldier. As an Orks muscles continue to develop and the katas learned, this item becomes a destructive extension of an Ork soldier's body.

The kingdom has tried to use this item, but it doesn't suit. Men, Dwarves and Elves are not strong enough to wield it all day. Giants find the thing too small and would instead collect them to make them into something more useful.

The Cleave-Shovel is the standard Axe, Cleaver, Shovel, Spear, and Saw used by the Orks. It is ubiquitous, and most Orks have at least one if not two. They are scattered over the battlefield in wartime as they are thrown like spears. The weight is perfect for muscular Orks. Elaborate versions of this item celebrate honoured heroes and officers.
