Personal history

Tepin Rathmore was the second son of Merrick Rathmore, the Lord of Skysee. Tepin, erudite and bookish, had spent a life overlooked by his father in favour of his elder brother, Gareth. Gareth, a naturally athletic and well-built man, had been groomed from birth for succession and Tepin never had reason to believe he would ever come to inherit anything at all. He set himself to his studies in law and languages and prepared to eventually support his elder brother in the maintenance of the family allods. Old Lord Merrick was left heartbroken, however, when he heard news that his favorite son had died fighting in a place called New York during the Wars of Princes. Embittered by the cruelty of fate, Merrick never recovered from the loss of Gareth and never accepted Tepin as a true heir.   Written out of the family inheritance, Tepin was forced to forge his own late father's will in order to retain control of Skysee after the death of Old Merrick. Subsequent challenges to the legitimacy of his inheritance from his cousin Tryllane Friseal as well as the Scottish overlord, Prince Camlann of Edinburgh, forced Tepin into a fight for survival during which time he was imprisoned by Camlann and Skysea was beseiged by Tryllane's forces.   In order to assert his rights, Tepin courted the aid of the English Lord Simon Aimery and together they forged a "Britannian Alliance" that overthrew the existing political order of both Scotland and England. Their joint political ambitions sparked a two-year civil war known as The Anarchy, a lawless time of rampant chaos and civil disorder. Unskilled in military matters, Tepin left the fighting to Lord Simon and assembled a network of spies, saboteurs, and assassins. This guild of rogues came to be known as Tepin's Special Service.   In the aftermath of this Anarchy the English Parliament was suppressed and Prince Camlann deposed. Simon Aimery emerged as the unquestioned military ruler of a restored Mortmare monarchy and Tepin Rathmore claimed Camlann's title as the new Prince of Edinburgh.   The Britannian Alliance expanded into a formal political reunification of Scotland and England and the founding of a new Kingdom of Greater Britannia. While Aimery assumed the role of Lord Protector of the armed forces, Tepin retained control of the renamed Britannian Special Service, a force that he wields even now as the feared spymaster of the Britannian Crown.   During the Phoenix Occupation of England, Tepin's campaign of political and military subterfuge halted the imperial advance and sustained Scottish independence. After news of the Fall of Rome reached Edinburgh, Tepin mobilized the Highland banners and marched for London to liberate Queen Isabella and a grateful English nation.
