Temple of the Tiger Report in In the Shadow of Princes | World Anvil

Temple of the Tiger

Awakening the Curse of the Beast

General Summary

It is February 19th, 1000 PCE. Two sessions have passed since you last rested in the terracotta statue room.
You have saved Anzar Cerdan (and Sabra) from the Dream Curse and are still exploring the Moon Vault.
Note: The last recap omitted the final event of the previous session - Zen discovered another message left for the party by Goland Revize.
Marsala update: Marsala cast lesser restoration on Robb and Edmund.

Cat Room Revisited

The party entered the cat room they had entered in the dream vault and found that the sacrificial altars were replaced with stuffed cats, including a large taxidermied tiger which appeared to replace the real tiger seen prowling in the dreamscape. The stone man with the tiger head sprung to life and attacked when the party touched the magic flint dagger (+1 dagger of lycanthrope bane) on the stone table under the calendar wheel. The party defeated him (turning him back to stone) and then destroyed a fleshy heart taken out of the head of the stuffed tiger. When this was done the tiger man crumbled to a fine stone powder.

Traps for Days

The party went back through the tunnel hidden behind the calendar wheel and came to the hallway of doors they had discovered in the dream vault. They decided that the psychoportation closet encountered in the dreamscape was a devious waste of time and were intimidated by the golden seal on Valoran’s Tomb. That left the barred door with the black disc and serpent lintel as the next logical door to attempt.
This door turned out to be an incredibly strong tentacle trap that grabbed Math and held him fast before attempting to drop him into a pit of bamboo spikes. The party didn’t manage to break him free or destroy the tentacles before the trap completed its cycle, though Jayne did tie a rope around him and try to prevent him from falling into the pit. Unfortunately, Jayne couldn’t hold Math’s weight and fell into the pit along with his comrade. The sticks turned out to be dummy spikes with rubber heads placed only for visual effect but the fall still hurt.

Polyp Tree

The party returned to the cat room and tried a different path. This time they came upon a dark pool of fetid water from which grew a ghostly white willow devoid of leaves. Jayne sat down with his Klinnsmen Field Manual to figure out what this plant might be, but, before he could show anyone the correct page, the tree lurched forward and started whipping its limbs at the party.
The tree’s thorny branches transmitted a paralytic venom that rendered stricken PCs helplessly grappled by the animated limbs. As the venom continued to course through their bodies the limbs dragged the afflicted back to an open maw of razor teeth positioned atop the tree’s trunk where they were slowly gnawed upon. The party members still standing managed to fell the tree and free their friends, who quickly recovered from the venom after being freed from the toxic thorns.
Inside the polyp’s trunk, the party discovered some precious stones and an unidentified psionic mace. Zen then identified the properties of a psionic snaplock musket taken from Vril raiders two days earlier: it was a +1 psychokinetic burst weapon (+1d4 damage on all attacks, +3d8 damage on critical hits).
