Tabazan Restored

The Yellow Light Fades

General Summary

It is March 3rd, 1000 PCE. The Party saves Rob’s life using the Autodoc module of Renewal Station 7 (with dire consequences), rests in the Voidseal’s Great Hall, and plans their next move. The next day they discover and delve into another entrance to the Voidseal pyramid.

The Corruption of Rob

The Party looked with horror upon Rob’s blackened eyes and realized that something had gone very wrong during the Autodoc rejuvenation procedure. They brought in Oliver Chastain, their new expert in the occult, who suggested that Rob had been infected with the same Void energy that now corrupted the entirety of the Voidseal (RS7) complex. Rob’s human physiology was now being undermined by a virus-like attack of supernatural parasites. These parasites, incarnations of Void emanations, would eventually usurp control of Rob’s mind and transform him into a mindless slave of the Void Empyreans. Oliver believed that if the Forbidden City held the power to purify the Deathbringer, it could similarly remove Rob’s Void contamination.
Realizing that even the electronic computer systems of the Voidseal were now subverted with Void emanations — as well as the stain of the Deathbringer artifact, the Party decided they dare not tamper with the RS7 interface (and its precious data stores) until the malevolence of the Void was cleansed from the complex. Oliver said this could be accomplished if the Void emanations imprisoned in the Voidseal were exterminated (like the incarnated Void elementals that had joined Father Typhus to attack the Party in the Great Hall).

Morning in Tabazan

Adding Rob’s malady to the list of madnesses, disabilities, and curses plaguing their Party, the PCs rested up as best they could and took treatment for their wounds from Fulbeard. The next day, they saw a change in the city of Tabazan. The vast sargasso mat that had inundated the city’s inland lake harbour had receded and, indeed, was now no longer able to be seen (though its fetid leavings lingered, leaving the streets ankle deep in briny slime).
Most importantly, gone was the loathsome yellow glow from the top of the Voidseal pyramid, and gone with it were the agonized cries of madness and pain that had heralded the coming of the King in Yellow. From their vantage point atop the black pyramid, the PCs could see citizens milling about in the streets below. They were attempting to clean up and rebuild their city and their lives.

Planning for the Future

Balancing the needs of individual PCs with the broader aims of their mission, the Party devised a plan of action for the days ahead:
  • Purge the Voidseal of Void emanations
  • Get a blank parchment book (so Oliver could remove his spellbook from Jayne’s body)
  • Return to the Tercelet airship and bring it back to the Voidseal
  • Conduct research using the RS7 data stores
Aside from their search for the Forbidden City and the Seven Sword (last missing component of the cosmic apparatus), the Party remained mindful of the potentially worsening state of Math and Rob’s acquired corruptions.

Back into the Voidseal

Tracing the perimeter of the structure’s base and climbing amidst its bristling thickets of blackened selenium bars, the Party searched the surfaces of the Voidseal pyramid and located three additional entrances. All were barred by large stone blocks decorated with Old Ornish hieroglyphs — just like the door that had led into the pyramid’s upper chambers.
The first of these that the PCs explored was facing south at ground level and inscribed with a message that read: “Speak the location of Renewal Station 6.”
The second entrance was located 100 feet up the western face of the Voidseal. Its inscription read, “Speak the name of the Moon Mission.”
When the Party said, “Mjolnir,” this sandstone block partially dissolved into fine sand, but only at the top of the block. William brushed the sand aside and peered into the chamber ahead by firelight. He then used his elemental companion, Dee, to flame step through the crevice and into the adjoining chamber. As he tried to explore the room and report back to the other Party members about what he was seeing, someone happened to repeat the word “Mjolnir,” causing the stone barrier to deteriorate a little more. When the word was spoken a third time, the door crumbled away entirely, opening the way for all to proceed.
