Escaping the Dream Curse Report in In the Shadow of Princes | World Anvil

Escaping the Dream Curse

The Party Awakens to Face New Nightmares in the Moon Vault

General Summary

It is February 19th, 1000 PCE. You have rested in the terracotta statue room after leaving the Dream Curse (Dream Vault).
You have saved Anzar Cerdan (and Sabra) from the Dream Curse and are still exploring the Moon Vault.

Party Split

Last session, while exploring the Dream Vault, Jayne and Math got sucked into a psychoportation portal and separated from the rest of the Party. They were then ambushed by a Soul Eater that psychically attacked Math by confronting him with an image of his worst fears.
While this was happening, another Soul Eater attacked the rest of the party. This monster was hunting for Anzar Cerdan and lashed out at the PCs one-by-one looking for its prey. It implied that the Dream Curse had a sentient purpose and refused to passively allow the party to leave with Anzar.
Husani began wrestling with Sabra while the Soul Eater attacked, and Adelle, clumsily wielding the Slayer Sword, joined the rest of the PCs in fending off the monster. The party realized that since Math and the Soul Shroud were separated from Sabra it was impossible to simply retreat back to Material Reality without leaving Sabra’s soul trapped in the Dream Curse.
After Math and Jayne defeated their Soul Eater, they, realizing their location in the Dream Vault, started walking by lantern light to catch up with the rest of the party.

Leaving the Dream Curse

After the party reunited, Husani informed them that more Soul Eaters were coming. Hearing this, the PCs decided that it was not safe to linger in the Dream Curse. Sabra performed a brief Edrolim surrender ceremony before submitting his soul to be trapped within the Soul Shroud (carried by Math). This was done in order to free Sabra (an ancient Edrolim warrior) from his 8-century exile in the Dream Curse. Zen signalled to Marsala back in Material Reality for a wake-up call.

Final Interrogation

Back in the waking world, the PCs reevaluated the Void Acolytes, and (after one more interrogation with Husani) the Party decided to send the acolytes into the poison cloud and back into the Dream Curse. Husani promised that the Sleeper (presumably Lex Tetrax) would soon awaken and that he would return to exact his revenge.
This threat reiterated the party’s discovery that the upcoming eclipse (May 11, 3167 / 1000 PCE) was to be an auspicious one. Husani also confirmed that this eclipse would overcome the binding power of the Moon Blade and break the seal placed upon the Void Gate (Moon Door).

Resting and Advancing

The party took advantage of the no-longer-lethal atmosphere of the dungeon to take another long rest. Refreshed, they moved further into the Moon Vault. On the way, they disturbed a gas spore, which pelted them with fast-growing toxic spores. They also awakened the challenge of Pelota and won a brief game of ancient Ornish sports-ball. The game ended when Everest socked the basketball-sized rubber Pelota ball into an orange-limned goal and triggered a triumphant fanfare of drums.
Among the spoils of victory: a magical cloak permeated by tiny air elementals called sylphs (Sylph Cloak).
