Helestel

(a.k.a. The Ice Queen, Winter's Mistress)

Along with her twin brother Katai, Helestel was born from the scandalous affair of Yova and Golonash. Due to the nature of their origin, the twins were pariahs to the more light favoring deities. Helestel grew used to being an outsider and relegated herself to the colder edges of the celestial sea, closer to the reaches of Tenra. In this darkness, Helestel was welcomed by her father who taught her to scorn those who had ousted her. Helestel brings her vengeance to the planes where she battles in an endless tug-of-war with Faedrus. This brings the changing seasons as Helestel pulls the planes into the cold, dark grasp of winter until Faedrus can fight back and pull them back to the light of summer.
Helestel appears as a mostly translucent statue of ice. She has an everpresent blizzard around her and any water that gets near freezes instantaneously. At the center of her translucent form, her cold, blackened heart beats slowly.
Helestel is revered by most creatures of the cold. She is the mother of frost giants and is idolized by orcs, aside Golonash. Shrines to Helestel are built atop frozen lakes and at the peaks of snow capped mountains. Her most devout followers are known to make sacrifices to their goddess by stealing other mortals and buring them alive in the snow.
