Accountant

"What good is a coin compared the skill of the hand that counts it?"
— Head Accountant Robert Bronze

History of the Job

From the early days of grain storage, to the complexity of our current "Metal Backed" system, Accountants have been around since nearly the dawn of society. Wherever there was a need to count, there was an Accountant. Whenever someone needed to double check numbers, they sought aid of an accoutant. Of course those in the early days also supplimented their income with other avenues. Most took up the field of Scholar or Speculator, but a few went on to progress through the political wastes. Eventually the position was given... Well, more. It certainly lifted people from having to work two jobs to make a living. "Ideally," it was remarked during this age "We shouldn't have to worry about our accountants being tired from over work."

Working alongside some of the highest public offices in the cities, Accountants make up nearly a tenth of the workforce in the Administrative field. Whole teams are often brought in, working in shifts through all hours, to complete complicated tasks.

Senior Accountant Positions

Accountant

Though any level below the actual Accountant may have been doing nearly the same job and handling the same number of clients daily, there is a quite evident distinction between the Senior and the Entry/Mid Level Accountants. Mainly that they have passed the Country Wide Accounting Exam held in Drapine once a year. Upon completion, the Entry/Mid Level Accountant is immediately promoted to the rank of a full fledged Accountant.

Senior Accountant

A Senior Accountant is someone who has, under great duress and through intense trials, accomplished great deads in the Accounting field. They are also the ones that have most often gone first, headlong, into the abyss of dangers that Fiscal papers can bring about. Fundamentally a Senior Accountant is responsible for the majority of the Entry/Mid Level Accountants under them, often running teams of 10-20 people. Senior Accountant is the second to last Rank of the Accounting Career Path. Just as the Accountant gets its own badge, so too does the Senior Accountant.

Career Progression

Progression through the realm of the Accountant is relied upon good work and heavy refrences. Most attempting to climb the Gilded ladder often find themselves filling shoes of the dead men before them. However progression can be achieved through hard work and determination. There are, however, only a select number of spots available in the higher echelons of the power ranking. The higher you get, the less you find so to speak.
While ideally there would be a spot open for any wishing to fill it, provided they possess the skill, there are several limiting factors that make the jobs tenured and more difficult to acquire. First of the myriad legal procedures would a vote of "No Confidence" by the managing partners of the firm. From there, a Tribunal would be held to determine negligence. After procedures are complete, the accused would either be banish, locked up, or cleared of all charges. In the case of the Former two, a new position would be avaialable within the week. Applications would usually be submitted before the day of the Tribunal but after the notice of "No Confidence".

The Great Green Eyes

Though perhaps an unintended consequence of the creation of the badge, an image appears upon it the more you look. Two piercing green eyes, staring into your soul. Lifeless... Aimless... All consuming. The eyes on the badge are simply the shading, but their message is clear: Greed is always watching. Envy is always watching. They exist ever present just outside our perception, but always within grasp. It is only fair that it be the guardian of the money, ultimately it controls the money more than any of us.

The Safe

The Great Dulcient Safe, constructed in 244 CE by one of the greatest Locksmiths and Artisans of the time the Dulcient Safe requires four seperate keys to open. Each of the seperate keys are, themselves, hidden within smaller but equally as complex safes with custom locks as well. Ever since its construction, people have sought the Dulcient Safe for the secrets that may be carried within. They searched for the smaller Dulcients too, though only the Great Dulcient was ever recovered. What lies within is a mystery, known only the to the creator himself who passed some twenty years after its completion.

The Scales

While common in the act of Finance, the Scales represented on the Heraldry of the Badge are actually the Scales of Life. Balanced and weighted by the Coins of Souls praying to enter an eternal afterlife, the Scales of Life balance the ledger of all who step before them. Measuring the worth of the soul by some means that scholars only speculate on. They are, however, important to the art of Fiscal planning.

The Coins

As intimated before, the coins on the Badge represent the Soul Coins: Pieces of value that total out the worth of a soul. Some might ask "How much is the worth of a life?" Yet the Soul Coins make the questions fairly easy to answer. The value of a life is made of the accumulations of the souls actions throughout that life. They make up the totality of a persons worth. Your actions define you, and how much you cost.

The Crescent Moon

The Crescent moon represents the continent of Ghristlin. While it was founded on the corpse of a Great Beast, the Elder Dragon Ghrist, and is often refrenced as the home of Dragons or the Continent of Dragons it also has many alignments with the moon. For one, the shape of the continent is fairly similar to a Crescent. Two, the moons plays a large part in the affairs of dragons, and has chilling effects on the continent as well. And finally, Because the badges were all desgined by the same artist, they posses similarlites in their designs.

Notable Accountants Through the Years

Willoby Douglas: Head Clerk to the Bank of Drapine. Born 188 CE, died in the bed of another on December 4th 243 CE, Willoby Douglas was instrumental in the construction, operation, and later involved in the dissolution of the Central Bank of Drapine. (Mind you Drapine as we know it today wasn't founded until the late 800's, this was instead the farming & trading village of Drapine, not to be confused. Very little is known about the man throughout his Financial years, all that has been gleaned from the years removed is that he was quite efficient and a rather dedicated individual to the craft.

Grechin Wundercroat: Born in Syult in 342 CE to a family of Lawyers, Grechin Wundercroat found that her abilities with number far outweighed her ability to understand Legalese. Making the change over from the structure of the Law to the Structures of Finance was a relatively easy switch, one that saw her bring with the entirety of her legal professional mind. Behind the work of Grechin Wundercoat was the air that the system "did not work", and that drastic measures needed to be taken to change things. This lead to the rise of Minting and the wars of Coinage.

Pinsnezz Joey: Certainly not the most famous Accountant to have ever walked the lands, Pinsnezz Joey is an almost complete mystery. He operated in the Banks and Vaults of some of the largest cities through the years of 620-699 CE, passing away in the line of duty. It's said that Pinsnezz worked well into the night most days, and consisted off of only the provided supplies within the Banks. What a mystery.
