Beliefs about Caretakers
Caretakers lead a troubled existence in Ilura and the neighbouring realms, as many simply do not understand the tasks that they perform. While not actively hunted like werewolves or vampires might be, they are easily made scapegoats in case a harvest fails, livestock dies, or other misfortune befalls them. As such, many prejudices exist about Caretakers and their professions. For example, seeing a caretaker in a city means that it might soon be subjected to a deadly siege, or that they steal children at night and eat them. Touching a caretaker is believed to be exceptionally dangerous, as people think that this will spell doom for you to wander the world in a state of undead.
Besides negative prejudices, also several positive prejucides exist. Seeing a caretaker during battle means that you would survive the battle.
As is always the case with prejudices, many of them are based on baseless accusations and simply ignorance. Talking to a caretaker usually reveals their true nature, but mostly grizzled war veterans are the only ones brave enough to do this.
