Qualifications

The ability to inscribe magical runes requires the Gift of Magic

Career Progression

Every dwarf who shows signs of possessing the Gift of Magic is drafted and trained in special schools by other Rune Masters.
It takes normally several years untill a novice has come to know most of the over thousand symbols that are used to carry magical energies.

Payment & Reimbursement

Most Rune Masters are employed by the state. They are craftsman, aswell as soldiers and teachers. Runes are omnipresent in dwarven society. The fundaments and brickwork of houses are inscribed with protective runes. Armor is made carrying runes, as are weapons. Many people get runic tattoos aswell as temporary body paint too.
A Rune Master recieves their pay and housing from the state or their guild.

All of dwarven society relies on runes. They are used in buildings, armor and weaponry. The almost thousand different runes commonly inscribed all carry different functions and purposes.

Rune Masters fullfill a special place in dwarven society.

Demographics

While most Dwarves recognise runes, only five person of them can incribe them professionally and only a fraction of those can cast runes freely.

A Rune Master needs basically only two tools, something to inscribe the rune with and something to inscribe them into.
Different material produce runes of different quality.
