Early Life
Most of the early life of Ragaster Telve remains unknown. He came from nowhere and taught himself most what he could. His family lived a life in poverty, thus despite his abilities he was never noticed and conscripted by any of the imperial school. Nonetheless he possessed a strong grasp on the Gift of Magic from early on. With twelve years of age he escaped the parental home and lived on his own. As a hermit with fourteen years he came to master his gifts. Only by chance did the Order of Edlam discover him. A wayward sorcerer heard about tales of a magically talented hermit living by the sea. The sorcerer convinced him to join the Order, which he reluctantly did. He spent not even a year with the Order when he first joined them. They tried to train and discipline him in the ways of the imperial mages, an existence, which he abhorred. Soon enough he was fed up with the other mages and ran away again to continue to live as a hermit.Becoming Grandmaster
After leaving the Order he chose to become a wandering hermit. The extend of his travels is unknown, yet witnesses report to have seen him from Illodia to the Sleeping Sea. His travels took him over a decade, during which he mastered and refined his abilities. Trained not just in hydromancy, but knowledgeable in many disciplines of magic he returned to Edlam. After having left on bad terms the Order was hesitant at first to let him join again. What convinced them was not so much that they came to like Ragaster, moreso they were convinced by his abilities and believed that he'd be a valuable ally and a terrible foe. They were right, yet Ragaster proved himself to be both. In ten years time he took over the Order and became Grandmaster. His old rivals were driven out of the spotlight and Ragaster chose recruits and appointed those most capable and loyal to him. At the age of fifty two he had reached his goal and was elected Grandmaster, having now total controll over the Order and being in a position to influence and controll the imperial government.The Thalassocrate
It is an open secret that for long now Ragaster has been in controll of the Illodian Empire. Outwardly the young Emperor is presented as glorious and prosperous figure, while internally he is powerless. The way how he got this power is seen by some as outright treason. In the year 714 the old Emperor Kaldan V., mysteriously passed away to be succeeded by his son Garin Eter III.. This new young Emperor at the age of ten, could not do much to resist the mage's influence. The Order of Edlam, in co-operation with the military rules over all affairs of the Empire. It isn't far fetched to say that Ragaster is a contradictionary person. He despises the Daulerim Empire for its claim to universal rule, but keeps grand ambitions for his own Empire. He despises the authority of the nobility, while striving for a pure meritocratic state, which is even more hierarchical.
