Edlam

Edlam is the second-most important city in the Empire of Illodia and seat of the Order of Edlam.
The city has approximately sixty thousand inhabitants in its core and around two hundred thousand more in its immediate vicinity. It lies at a small lagoon right at the Sea of Edlam, protected by the Crown of the Seas, a large stone formation created by the mages of the Order to protect the city.
Edlam had been independently ruled by the Order of Mages, thus no monarch had ever ruled over it. This had brought freedom and prosperity to the city and its inhabitants. When Dauler the Great united humanity, the mages of Edlam joined him in his fight. Later however they became desillusioned as his heirs were all so disappointing.
When Kaldan II. rose and the Empire of Illodia gained it independence, the Order became one mighty ally of it. Since then Edlam and its Order have been shaping illodian politics.
