Opteran (Optear-on)

Found early into the vast growth of the Elvish conquest, these moth-esque humanoids are quite averse to conflict, much preferring to mediate and solve with diplomatic meetings. Functionally immortal while in their larval state, without conflict these Opteran's can live for world ages. When conflict is the only resort, Opteran's can go though a metamorphosis that drastically shortens their lifespan while granting a more combat oriented bodily form. The change is not one of mere body, for now with a vital wing set and war capability, their attitude and personality changes as well. While most only live for about 5 years after their change, it's possible to extend their life through further conflict, as without defenders in war time, the colonies of Opteran's would be helpless against invaders. However when peace is attained, the metamorphed individuals die off within the coming months.
