Basic Information

Anatomy

An Avarian has 6 limbs: two wings, two arms, and two legs. Their feet are adorned with talons and reflect the structure of most large birds. To reduce their weight Avarians have hollow bones and air sacs. The air sacs are located in their necks which they are able to expand at will. Avarians also have a beak instead of jaws.

Genetics and Reproduction

Avarians reproduce sexually. Their young are born from eggs which they keep in nests which have changed over centuries.

Growth Rate & Stages

When Avariians hatch, they are incapable of flight. They have to grow in their flight feathers. By about age 12 an Avarian is fully grown.

Ecology and Habitats

Avarians live in very high places. They prefer mountains, high forests, and the Elemental Plane of Air.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Avarians have an omnivorous diet, though they tend to get the most of their diet in meat.

Social Structure

Avarians live in a matriarchal society. Because of the female ability to lay eggs, they tend to spend more time near their nests while the males are more adventurous. This isn't to say that females don't leave the protection of the nest to males, but overall in society this has resulted in females existing in one location more. With safety in numbers, this meant that a large number of females gather together. Creating these Avarian cities, the female portion of the population has led to them taking more leadership over the communal nesting grounds. Males tend to become warriors, scouts, and messengers.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Avarians have exceptional detail in their vision. This is due to the fact that their eyes are not spherical and they are larger than human eyes. This means that an Avarian is not able to move their eyes inside of their skull and have to use their neck's to see in different directions. Their eyes also face in different directions, giving them a better field of view for their surroundings.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Avarian names have a combination of airy and sharp sounds (ex Skikark). Their surnames come from the mother's primary name and an additional name based on the batch of hatchlings.

Beauty Ideals

Beauty ideals generally are based on their feathers. Preference of feather patterns and colors change from Avarian to Avarian and region to region.

Courtship Ideals

In general, Avarians undergo an aerial dance in order to win over a potential mate. This aerial dance changes between regions, some even taking place on the ground with elaborate setups.

Relationship Ideals

If a couple is engaged in a relationship that has a nest with eggs, generally one member of the relationship stays near the nest to protect it while the other goes about gathering materials.

Average Technological Level

Avarians are masters of architecture, especially in challenging works that require incredibly delicate balances. Many of their structures are highly detailed and incredibly light-weight. This has resulted in magic and technology which has made building structures in hard to reach places one of the more advanced in Ifiron.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The two major dialects of the Avarian language is split because of the divide of the planes. Avarians that live on the Material Plane have a dialect distinct from the Avarians on the Elemental Plane of Air. The Elemental Plane of Air dialect more closely reflects the Air Elemental dialect or Primordial.

Common Dress Code

Avarians are one of the more loosely dressed of the races because of their concerns about weight and flight. Higher society wears more clothing to show status. Heavier clothes will announce the lack in need of flight. Avarians will wear custom clothing that highlights their own feathers.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Avarians are very focused on physical beauty, which is reflected in their clothing and architecture. This applies to the way one speaks, a well-spoken individual is considered more cultured for the society. This relates back to their courtship ideals.
