Castle Stormhollow Building / Landmark in Iconast | World Anvil

Castle Stormhollow

Castle Stormhollow was a fort built and rebuilt several times in its life. It currently stands on the coast of the Bay of kagren.

Purpose / Function

Protect the mouth of the Welterglades.

Defenses

The design was originally a large mostly square tower built to simply dominate the river. A series of expansions added a Spiked Trench that rings the central tower with a quarried wall of unmortared stones that rings most of the island. The South side of the island has two towers with Ballistae that were added in the brief period that the Theoidor Empire controlled the county. The Vampire built a stone dam from the Northwest side that connects to the mainland and to a small gatehouse and wall. The Dam and the Gatehouse were abandoned and are simply crumbling ruins now. That gate that led on to the Dam still exists but is disused.

History

Prehistory

Originally built by the Saurid Empire to control trade up and down the Eastern Coast of thier Empire. Welterglen was a fairly common trade port during anceint times and so this fort sat at the mouth of the river that runs through the Welterglades.

Imperial Age

During the Age of the Theoidor Empire this fort fell into ruin and was taken over by a Vampire. He lived there from about 2730 BCE - 757 CE. The vampire created a small realm that spanned from the borders of Rockyfort in the North to the County of Smithersrough in the Southwest. The vampire's reign of terror was ended by a knightly order that repaired the ruins. These knights were Paladins of Tempus and renamed the Fort to Castle Stormhollow. The Paladin Order dissappeared from the region around 1157 CE. This left vaccancy for a Hedge Knight to extort the land.

Age of Young Nations

The Bureau established a spy network within the county in the early part of 1201 CE. They then staged a coup that granted the county to the Artificer Alliance.
