Bastien Maurin

Baron Bastien Maurin ap Danaan leads Paris within the Duchy of Bayeaux. One of the only remaining members of House Danaan in the Autumn, he takes his job as one of the Pathfinders seriously.

He often sends his subjects to explore the Dreaming: to map, explore, and experience their homeland - though he is aware as anyone else that Arcadia is lost to them.

But Baron Maurin does not simply send his vassals into the unknown, no. He also travels far and wide across the unknown areas of the Dreaming, doing his own cataloging of its lands (as best as one can do so). He is also a great lover of progress, and through his decrees and encouragements, Paris has become a city of invention, and the upcoming Paris Exposition is set to bring more wonder, imagination, and hope than has been seen in France in quite a while.

Personal history

Bastien Maurin was born into an aristocratic family in Paris, in the mid-1700s. His family lived a privileged life, which, upon his Chrysalis at the age of eight, served him well as a young Autumn Sidhe. The French Revolution brought with it much change and uncertainty - even fear - for the fae nobility.

But Bastien, as a member of House Danaan, showed uncharacteristic willingness to work with and for the commoners of his hometown of Nice. When the humans were rioting and taking to the Parisian streets in droves (and the commoner fae right along with them), Bastien's vassals came to him with their demands, and through negotiation they were able resolve their differences with minimal bloodshed (beyond the time an impassioned satyr rushed Bastien's knight with a chimerical dagger, but that was quickly resolved).

While no one was fully satisfied with the terms of the Maurin Treaty, it cooled temperatures enough that, once the dust was settled in Paris (and the previous Baron of Paris beheaded), Queen Renalia de Beau ap Liam appointed Maurin to the barony. He has remained ever since then, cleaning up the mess of his predecessors.

Reign

Like most of House Danaan (those who remained in the Autumn, anyway), Maurin spends most of his time in the Dreaming. The Autumn fades like a dream to his eyes, but he has made a commitment long ago to be an engaged - if not present - ruler. So from his freehold, he has several agents designated to keep him appraised of the goings-on of the Paris kith as well as the humans and Dreamers as well. They are his hands in the world, and he relies on them and trusts them immensely.
