Illumination
Illumination: Navigating the Eternal Twilight
Understanding Illumination
In the perpetual twilight of Icewind Dale, natural light is scarce and unreliable. The Everlasting Rime ensures that even during the brightest part of the day, the light never exceeds a dim, eerie glow.
Natural Light Conditions
- Twilight Hours: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the land is shrouded in dim light, making visibility poor and shadows long.
- Darkness: Outside these hours, the Dale is cloaked in darkness, punctuated only by Auril’s aurora or the occasional full moon.
Surviving with Limited Light
- Light Sources: Carry reliable sources of light such as torches, lanterns, or magical items like a Driftglobe or Light spell.
- Darkvision: Characters with darkvision will find it easier to navigate, but should still carry backup light sources.
- Mark Your Path: Use markers or chalk to avoid getting lost. In the dark, even familiar paths can become treacherous.
Magical Aids
- Light Spell: A simple and effective spell to create bright light.
- Continual Flame: Provides a long-lasting light source that can be carried or placed as needed.
- Darkvision: Grants darkvision to those without it, extending their ability to see in the dim and dark.
