Arbori (/oːɾ.bʊ.ɾiː/)
Large, feline humanoids that were driven from their plane and have become dimensional refugees in ours.
Arbori are a sophont species with mature, if partially lost, class system. They live in diasphora after a dimensional horror destroyed their home plane.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Arbori can be both bipedal and quadrupedal depending on the time. They have strong arms, ending in three fingered hands, of which, the middle is especially long and used for spearfishing. Their legs are also clawed. Arbori have a mane of fur above their their head and are if male, have a bundle of fur on each side of their mouth, which has four fangs, two of which curve outwards, that can spread a numbing venom.
Genetics and Reproduction
Arbori are traditional sexually dimorphic species with an annual breeding period. For mature Arbori this will happen every two years, wherein they will give birth to a single Arbori after a five month pregnancy.
Growth Rate & Stages
Arbori childhood lasts roughly 5 years.
Ecology and Habitats
Arbori can live in a range of cool to cold climates. During the summers, they will spend their time in areas where they are able to cultivate fruit and make that the primary component of their diet. In the winters, when the agricultural season ends, they will primarily feed on fish, which often leads to them travelling north temporarily if food is scarce in summer regions. As a result they develop a thick layer of blubber and are capable of hibernation in cold climates if necessary.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Arbori are mixed frugivores/piscivores with a preference towards fruit. They are also able to eat a crustaceans, a limited number of grains, and small game animals. Some communities are pure hunter/grazers but most have some form of domesticated fruits used in agriculture.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Arbori have the typical fives senses, of which their hearing and sight are the strongest.
Civilization and Culture
History
Arbori first started residing in the human plane roughly eighteen thousand years ago after their plane was destroyed by the Ahurazael, one of their first victims. They didn't only travel to the human plane as refugees, but they traveled there in their biggest numbers. Unfortunately, with their strength destroyed, they didn't exactly thrive. Humans are quite xenophobic, which meant the Arbori were relegated to lands unoccupied by human society, and as a result have lost much of what they once had. In modern times, any Arbori communities that exist are small, and contain only a fragment of their inheritance. There are very few large communities left, but they still manage to find a way to live and even thrive on the fringes of human society.
