List of House Rules

The following is a list of house rules I have for my campaigns. These rules will be updated periodically.    

Character Creation

The following are the main rules for character creation.
  1. All ability scores are determined by point buy using the following link: (https://chicken-dinner.com/5e/5e-point-buy.html). Instead of using the three ability score modifiers that are given to you from your race, you can allocate any 3 +1 into any ability scores of your choice. However, you are NOT allowed to throw all three into the same ability score.
  2. You are allowed one free feat at level 1. Please consult the DM to make sure the feat is properly balanced, especially if it is homebrew.
  3. If you roll lower than average for health on character creation, you may take the average instead. You can only do this at character creation, not level ups.
  4. Leveling will be milestones instead of EXP. Future levels may be longer to achieve in certain high level campaigns.
  5. If you are in the following campaigns, you will start your character at level 3: Hearts of Haven; The Eternal War. You also gain your choice of 2 of the following common consumables in the list below.
  6. If you are in the following campaigns, you will start at level 5-7: Prisoners of the Core; Tunnels Under Arkatraz; The Sand Princess. You also gain your choice of 3 common consumables, 1 uncommon consumables, and 1 +1 uncommon weapon or spell focus. (Note: You do not gain any items if you are in the Prisoners of the Core Campaign, as you will start out with zero belongings).
  7. If you are in the following campaigns, you will start at level 12: The Girl in the Shadows; The Oxferm Vampire. You also gain your choice of 3 common consumables, 3 uncommon consumables, 1 rare consumable, 2 +1 weapons or spell focuses, and 1 rare item of your choice.
  8. I allow homebrew classes, races, backgrounds, and feats. HOWEVER, you must consult with me so I can properly balance them for the current campaign.

Items on Creation

In addition to your class and background items, you may choose the designated amount of items from the corresponding list as mentioned above.
  • List of Common Consumables: Potion of Climbing, Potion of Healing, or Spell Scroll Cantrip/1st level of your Choice.
  • List of Uncommon Consumables: Dust of Disappearance, Dust of Sneezing and Choking, Keoghtom's Ointment, Oil of Slipperiness, Potion of Fire Breath, Potion of Hill Giant Strength, Potion of Growth, Potion of Resistance (Random DM Roll), Potion of Water Breathing, Potion of Greater Healing, or a Spell Scroll of 2nd/3rd level of your choice.
  • List of Rare Consumables: Bead of Force, Chime of Opening, Elixir of Health, Oil of Etherealness, Potion of Clairvoyance, Potion of Diminution, Potion of Gaseous Form, Potion of Frost/Stone Giant Strength, Potion of Heroism, Potion of Invulnerability, Potion of Superior Healing, Scroll of Protection (Random DM Roll), Spell Scroll of 4th/5th level of your choice.

Skill Checks/RP

The following rules are for skill checks and RP during sessions.
  • I DO NOT allow forced skill checks to manipulate a players decision UNLESS both players give consent. Players shouldn't have to roll a dice to persuade another player to do something for them.
  • No ERP. The closest I will allow is fade to blacks and player consented romantic story-telling, as long as EVERYONE is on board with it.
  • All Perception, Insight, Deception, and Stealth checks will be made BLINDLY while on Foundry to avoid meta-gaming.
  • Don't be That Guy and be respectful to your fellow players. You get ONE warning if you do something that ruins the game for both players and DM. After that, you will be kicked from the game.
  • I will be requiring parties to survive on rations when food isn't readily available. If a character doesn't eat for the day, they will need to make a DC 13 + # of days without food Constitution saving throw, gaining 1 point of exhaustion on a failed save. This same formula will also be used for days without a long rest.
  • All discord server rules are to be followed on the server these campaigns are run in! No exceptions!
 

Combat

The following rules apply for combat encounters during sessions.
  • For characters level 5 and above combat turns will be limited to 3-5 minutes of decision making. This is to keep combat pressure up while keeping sessions on time. Know your classes/inventory and think your turns over ahead of time.
  • Players are allotted one round of set-up when approaching a major boss fight. The DM will tell you when you get this round. So drink your potions and apply your spells if you got em!
