Session 17: Ghost in the Machine
General Summary
The session started with the Water Merchants just entereing Kakariko City shortly after reading the Skulluta posting on the notice board at the main entrance. Feng went off on his own, telling the rest he has to look for someone. The rest of the party headed to a section of city called The Gardens, which was a very elegant setion of the city. Approaching the Skulluta house, they noticed a crowd gathered around the house. The Water Merchants talked to some of the crowd folks, finding out that they were all there in response to the notice board posting.
After waiting for some time, the door to the house opened and butler informed the crowd that the previous party sent to the Skulluta mansion will be given more time to return. Easifa was sent back to Hyrule Castletown, and was to have Kassu come to Kakariko. The group then did some sight-seeing around town. They first stopped at the fortune teller. Sunny got a prediction of bad fortune, which basically ruined his day. Thistle and Ora got neutral prediction. Tanager and Feng got predictions of good fortune.
After that, they visited the shooting gallery. Sunny broken even and Ora lost some rupees. The group then went to visit the Well of Three Features - a historic monument in the center of city that was the original well that the settlement was built around. They then went to see The Collossi - giant, towering statues in the likeness of Link and Zelda - where they learned about the Eternal Conflict of Zelda, Link, and Ganon.
They then went to the shop Sug'R Cane. Before they entered, they talked with a loud and socially awkward guy sitting outside the shop selling magic beans. Feng bought a single magic bean fom him. The group (exept for Sunny) then entered the shop and purchased some magical pastries. As they were leaving, Sunny said he would meet back up with them as he wanted to visit a security shop. When the group left, Sunny entered Sug 'R Cane and also purchased some magical pastries.
As the sun began getting lower in the sky, Kassu arrived in the city as the weather changed to rain. The group then went back to the Skulluta flat. After waiting for a bit, the butler informed the group they would be taking the next applicants. The Water Merchants and another group both spoke up at the same time, much to the chagrin of the other group. The butler had them both enter and brought them to meet Giovanni Skulluta.
Giovanna inquired what credentials the groups had. The group indicated they killed all sorts of creatures. When Giovanna asked about killing undead, the other group admitted they didn't. The Water Merchants spoke how they killed Bogun Redhorn, destroyed the Goriya Temple, and killed poes. Giovanna kicked out the other group upon hearing the Water Merchants killed poes. The other group told the Water Merchants that they were from M.F.H. 99 and the Water Merchants made powerful enemies.
Giovanni told the group he wants to rid his mansion of the creatures that have infested it. The Water Merchants asked about pay, and Giovanni indicated he, being rich and influential, would compensate them in the form of a favor should they need. The party asked about what is happening at his mansion. Giovanni told them that the strange occurrances started happening after buying a painting at an auction. The painting was found in an abandoned mansion deep in a forest, and each member of the group that found it met with unfortunate ends. Giovanni also explained that a ghost woman literally scared his chamberlain to death, and some of his other branch managers and servants were transforming into spiders. The Water Merchants agreed to rid the mansion of creatures in exchange for a favor and 50 rupees for each party member, and headed off to the mansion.
As the group approached the mansion, it the rain got heavier and the sky began thundering and lightning. They went through the front gate, up the main path, and entered the front door, which was left ajar. A thin trail of blood lead running the length of the foyer lead out the front door. They followed the glood, but as they did, a neaby decorative pot flew at Feng and smashed against the back of his head. Now with extra caution, the group continued into the main atrium room. In this main atrium room, the trail of blood headed to the left, but then another trail of blood came from the left and headed up the straircase to the 2nd floor. In addition to the trail of blood, one of the other closed doors had green and blue lights flickering under it. And in the opposite direction, they head sounds of commotion, rummaging, and smashing. And at the top of the staircase, they saw something glowing purple against a set of double doors.
The group went up the stairs to investigate the purple glow, and saw the glow came from a padlock on the double doors that had a magic essences swirling around it. Deducing they don't have a means to unlock the door, they headed down an entered the room where they saw the green and blue flickering lights. Inside the found a blue bubble and a green bubble, which the party made quick work of.
After defeating the bubbles, the party explored the room. They learned they were in the smoking room. Looking around, found a gold-bowl pipe locked in a small case, along with a small key. They found a small locked drawer in a desk, and the small key unlocked it. Inside the drawer, they found a brick of Stovepipe Weed. Sunny was going to confiscate it, but was talked into putting it back by Thistle.
Along one wall, there was a decorative ship wheel. Tanager gave it a slow spin, and after a rotation, he felt some tenstion behind the wheel, and heard movement behind and up the wall towards the ceiling.
