Session 16: Kakariko City

General Summary

The session started off with the Water Merchants hiding in the back hallways of the goriya temple, formulating a plan to acquire the statue from the pedestal, which was guarded by a few imp poes and a jalhalla poe. The group decided that Sunny and Feng would walk out into the open platform area while wearing the Goriya cloaks they aquired, and act like they were casually tidying up the area. The poes all turned and just stared at Sunny and Feng. After a few tense moments, Ora teleported next to the jalhalla poe and tried to grab its lantern, that looked different than the lanterns that the imp poes were carrying. They engaged in a short tug-o-war before the jalhalla poe--and the lantern--dematerialized. The rest of the party rushed in and began fighting the rest of the poes.   As the group rushed in, from the magical energy eminating from and around the statue, a large, slimy tentacle emerged. While that was happening, Ora--seemingly against her will and with odd swirls in her eyes--began attacking Tanager. Feng was able to kill a poe. Bear Thistle bit the tentacle, resulting in getting poisoned. The group slowly started killing off the imp poes, while taking punches from Ora. During the waning stages of the battle, Sunny ran up and grabbed the statuette off the pedestal, and Feng knocked Ora unconscious causing the jalhalla poe to be ejected from Ora. Bear Tanager then finished off the jalhalla poe, leaving the party alone on the platform with the statuette.   Tanager healed Ora. As she came to, the pedestal runes began glowing red and the temple began rumbling and shaking, indicating it was about to collapse. Ora grabbed the lantern the jalhalla dropped, and the group, along with Jingshen and Ralph, wisly decided to hastily make for the exit. Sunny, using his intuition, was able to conclude a door on the opposite side of the room would lead towards the exit. Upon going through the door, Tanager believed he saw a light at the end of the corridor that was daylight, but turned out to the be torch lying on the ground, costing them precious seconds. Thistle, observing the ground, was able to tell that newer foottraffic tracks heading in one direction must mean the main entrance is in the opposite direction, and lead the group that way. Arriving at a an intersection for corridors, Feng, taking a moment, sensed subtle air movement. Nose in the air, he decuced it was fresh air, and lead the group down that fork. Halfway down the corridor, they reached a spot where the floor had subsided, which created a very large gap in the floor. Sunny, taking running start, long-jumped the gap, quickly tied a rope to a protruding rock in ceiling, and threw it back for the others to swing across. Further down the corridor, Tanager saw an old door that looked flimsy. He tried breaking it down, only to learn that there must've been a cave-in on the other side, which prevented the door from opening. The temple began collapsing around them, and in desparation, Thistle looked up and through a broken ceiling tile, saw dirt and some roots. Deducing the roots must mean they are close the surface, he directed Easifa to dig at the dirt. Easifa pulled the roots, causing a hole to open large enough for all of them to escape. One by one, they crawled through the hole, and ran across the field away from the temple. They all then turned watched as the temple collapsed down to a pile of rubble.   The Water Merchants, Jinshen, and Ralph all make their way back to the villiage of Angenie through the night. Ralph, being from the town, takes the statuette and placed it on top of the column in the center of town. The column then activated and its top began rotating. Around the town, all the various constructs then reactivated and started performing their assignments. At the irrigation system, a portal opened above it, dumping a steady stream of water into it.   The group then rested the rest of the day. When they got up, they had Jingshen translate the letters they had found on the Zola Shaman.   The broken sealed letter read:
Brother, I regret to report that my search for the lost sea temple of our ancestors has turned up empty so far. But each failure is one step closer to success. I feel I am getting closer. I will continue my search of the eastern shore. I am also pleased to hear the goriya to the north have followed through on their half of the bargain and stopped the hylian town's magic water spring! Soon, all waters will belong to us! I pray that swiftly comes the day that we bring to this world the avatar of our god. All that do not submit to us will fear the water!
  The sealed letter read:
Brother. Feel no shame. For the Coral Cathedral of legend has been lost for thousands of years. I feel our god guiding you. You will discover it soon! It has guided me to my quarry! After searching so many small rivers, I have found the coral rod. It was hidden in a small shrine at a small river spring. It proves the Coral Cathedral legend is true. For his blessing, I have consecrated the river to our god and scarified hylian locals to it. I fear the knaves we have employed though are drawing too much attention. I hope their greed does not ruin our plans. We are so close. Stay strong.
The group discussed their priorities, including being back in Hyrule Castletown for the Council of Unity gathering and then investigating these notes further. Sunny and Tanager discussed Tanager's part in the upcoming play. The party then decided to spend the night in Angeni and head back in the morning.   The next morning, the party struck off back to Hyrule Castletown. When they readched the intersection of the main road between Castletown and Kakariko City, they noticed some ominous, dark, stationary clouds over Kakriko City off in the distance. The group decided to head to Kakariko and see what is going on.   When they reached the city, the sky was overcast Most people didn't seem bothered by it. The group noticed a small crowd around the notice board, which had a large, flamboyant posting that read:
Fortune and Glory! Rewards beyond your wildest dreams!   The honorable and revered Skulluta family were maliciously chased from their vacation mansion in Kakariko City by sinister creatures! Master of the household, Giovanni Skulluta courageously held the evil beings at bay while his family escaped. He then heeded his family’s pleas, and tactically withdrew.   If you have the burning sense of justice and you also desire a generously heroic reward in rupees, please visit the Skulluta flat located in the northern ward. Are you a brave enough soul to emerge victorious and become more renown and wealthier than you ever thought possible?   Cowards and weaklings need not apply!
The Water Merchants decided they would look into it
