Session 06: The Temple of Time Centennial Celebration

General Summary

The session started with the group discussing plans on how a means of capturing notorious bandit, Bogun Redhorn. They kicked around the idea of traveling with a merchant cart in hopes Bogun would attempt to rob it. Ora noticed that the streets of Hyrule Castletown were starting to fill with merchants who were arriving for the Temple of Time Centennial Celebration. She went down and talked with some merchants to try to find out some information about Bogun Redhorn. She learned that Bogun runs a gang of bandits, who rob anyone and anything.   While Ora was doing that, Sunny, Tanager, Thistle, and Feng went to see Sgt. Ian Collins. Sunny took a path through some back alleys, noticing some graffiti that Sunny was able to deduce belonged to a thieves guild. When they reached to military ward, they talked with a soldier, who was able to show them a map of reported attacks made by Bogun Redhorn. The attacks seemed scattered, with no real pattern except that most of the attacks tend to happen along roads, with the last attacks happening in the east and west. The soldier indicated Bogun seems calculated in his attacks. Thistle opined that Bogun may have a man on the inside.   While Sunny and the other were talking to the guard, Tanager and Feng went out and found a bard, name Hamilton Northwood, and inquired what he knew about Bogun Redhorn. Hamilton revealed that the tales state "Bogun Redhorn" isn't an actual name, but more a title, as when Bogun Redhorn was caught and executed last year, a new Bogun Redhorn has emerged. Tanager and Hamilton then talked about traveling the land and about the upcoming Centennial Celebration.   The group then went to the Temple of Time to check on High Priest Isadore Harris. The Temple was closed to the public, but Priest Gilbert Stapleton came out to talk to them. He relayed that the High Priest has fully recovered. They inquired about Bogun Redhorn, but Gilbert was unable to provide them with any new information.   The group decided to stay in town until the Centennial Celebration. Nothing of any importance happened over the two days leading up to the Centennial Celebration.   The day of the Celebration, the group was woken up by as the crowds arrived. Looking out the window, they saw the streets packed with people. When they group went down to the main room of the Tilt n' Stagger Inn, they found the place packed with people. The group went out into the festival and partook in the below games:
  • Everyone partook in "Guess the Number of Acorns."
  • Feng, Thistle competed in the "Drinking Contest." (Thistle came in 3rd place.)
  • Sunny competed in the "Trick Shot Contest." (Sunny came in 3rd place.)
  • Tanager (with Thistle) competed in the "Story-Telling Contest." Tanager told a story of an ancient magical bear who performs mesmerizing dances for people. Thistle performed as the bear, but in his drunkenness, turned into a lemming instead of a bear.
  • Feng competed in the "Slapping Contest." (Feng came in 3rd place.)
  • Tanager and Sunny entered the "Dancing Contest," with Thistle dancing in bear-form. (They came in 3rd place.)
  • Tanager and Feng entered the "Log Toss," to the chagrin of Thistle. (Feng came in 1st place, winning the Medal of Muscle, and Tanager taking 2nd place.)
  • Sunny and Thistle entered the "Toad Race." (Sunny came in 1st place, winning the Hat of Vermin, and Thistle came in 2nd place.)
  • Tanager and Sunny entered the "Knowledge Contest." (Neither placed.)
  • Feng and Sunny entered the "Barrel Run." (Feng came in 1st, winning the Pole of Collapsing, and Sunny came in 2nd place.)
  • Feng entered the "Stump Chopping Contest," to the ire of Thistle. (Feng failed to place.)
As they competed int he various contests, they kept a lookout for anything strange going on, but the town was too crowded to see anything amiss. The did notice that the Temple of Time was heavily surrounded by the Royal Guard of Hyrule, as the Royal Family of Hyrule was inside.  They emerged from high on a balcony along with priest Gilbert Stapleton and high priest Isadore Harris.  Isadore gave a speech on the history of the temple of time and how it was commissioned by King Isaac Roland.  Then, King Humphrey Roland gave a speech, while reminding the citizens to be respectful when the Council of Unity members arrive in the city in a few weeks.   Afterwards, Tanager stopped by the notice board and saw a new posting stating that the village of Small Creek's water supply (a small river) has turned into undrinkable sea water.  The group decided to go help, leaving Castletown and the festival and traveling along the roads, with hopes of running into Bogun Redhorn.  They traveled the rest of the day, and made camp.  After an uneventful night, the group continued along their way.  They eventually crossed paths with a Hylian peasant merchant, named Miles, who mistook the group for bandits.  The merchant told the group to not continue down the road, as he heard the noise of a vicious beast.  After inquiring the group's business, Miles continued on his way back from the way the group came from.   After a few more hours of uneventful travel, the group arrived at the village of Small Creek.  After talking briefly with a local, they were brought to Ol' Finnley, an elder Zora and an holy person of the town.  Ol' Finnley explained that further upstream is a natural spring that feeds the small river here.  Then, many days ago, the water of the river stopped flowing.  They sent some holy people up to the spring to perform offerings to the water gods.  The water then started flowing, but was salt water instead of fresh.  The holy people did not return, so the village sent some of their warriors to go find them.  The warriors also didn't return.  Then, the town was hit by vandals who destroyed their rain barrels and troughs.  Then, people leaving the town have been getting attacked by bandits.   When asked about an indention on his ring finger, Ol' Finnley told the group that he bartered his wedding ring for water.  He noted a group of merchants comes and sells fresh water.  The group is suspicious of this, as is Ol' Finnley but he has no proof of any underhanded activities of the water merchants.  Thistle then fixed a damaged rain barrel, and Tanager played his Lute of Weather Changing to make it drizzle for a minute.  After the rain stopped, they group noticed train of merchant wagons approaching the village.
