Session 05: Strange Dealings

General Summary

The party started the day planning how to deal with the rumored deku scrub settlement that is supposedly near a Blue Ash Tree that the group needs to locate in order to acquire its bark, which is the final component needed for the elixir for healing High Priest Isadore Harris. Everyone but Sunny spent the morning at Hyrule Castletown library, researching deku scrubs. They learned deku tend to be an uncivilized society, wary of outsiders, but are known to partake in trade. The group also learned deku have a written and spoken language, after which they sought out someone in the city who is fluent in Deku. They located the local Deku language expert to craft message written in Deku, which read: "Greetings. We come in peace. We request a trade of the bark of the blue ash tree, without hurting the tree, to help someone get better. They are sick."   Sunny went to go see Sgt. Ian Collins. Sunny revealed the group had acquired Stovepipe Weed. Sunny inquired if the stovepipe weed could be used to trade for money which could be used to trade with the deku scrip tribe, but also understood if the stovepipe weed would have to be confiscated. Sgt. Collins had to confiscate it, as possession and trading stovepipe weed is prohibited everywhere except Stovepipe Island.   Sunny then met up with the rest of the party at the library. They finished the note with the interpreter. As thanks, Tanager played him a song. The group then left the city, heading east southeast. They walked for several hours over the fields. Eventually, they crested a hill, and saw the treeline of a woods in the distance, as well as a figure sitting on a stump just outside the woods. The group approached the figure and found the figure to be a blue-feathered rito, named Skit, who was whittling a pipe. The group noticed that the rito had a bloody wrap under his arm. When asked about it, the rito said he got the injury from being attacked by a plant. The plant attacked him while he sneaking into the deku settlement to break off a branch of a blue ash tree so that he can use it to finish his pipe that he plans on gifting to his father. The group tried to coax him from future attempts at stealing some of the blue ash tree, but Skit indicated he really wanted it. Sunny deduced that Skit was in a thieves guild, by having a conversation with him in thieves cant. After some additional discussions, they all decide to make camp for the evening. During the night while Skit was sleeping, Sunny relayed to the others that Skit was in a thieves guild, and to keep their eye on him.   The next morning, Skit led the group into the woods. After a short travel with Skit at point, he signaled there were two deku scrubs up ahead that appeared to be posts in front of a structure. The group cautiously emerged from hiding, startling the two dekus, who sounded an alert to the others inside the structure. Thistle slowly approached the two dekus with the note and placed it on the ground with a rupee and backed away. The two deku cautiously examined it from a distance, and shortly after a whole group of dekus then emerged from the structure. The deku had a discussion amongst themselves and eventually parted down the middle to form a path into their structure. Skit tried to enter with the group, but the dekus would not let him. Sunny stayed behind with Skit, and the rest of the group entered into the deku settlement.   They are brought to a deku with orange leaves, holding a wooden staff, and having painted symbols on him. The group hands this deku some additional rupees. The deku leads the group to a grove with a singular tree in it, with shiny blue bark. Before they entered, several deku babas erupt from the ground. The deku waved its staff and the deku babas receded back into the ground. It then signaled for Ora to approach the blue ash tree. She scraped off some of the back into the small jar the group brought with them.     95

Memorable Quotes

Tanager: What are we trading?
Ora: Rupees.
Feng: Do we have some rupees.
Ora: I...I can donate...2.
Sunny: I think we should do this peacefully. If this is something sacred to them, I would have no respect for a person that breaks into a specific culture's secret area and steals their own religious artifact.
(After rolling a 7 Performance check.)
Tanager: Thank you! Thank you! I play at the inn every night!
Hired Interpreter: Oh. Thanks for the warning--I mean...Good to know.
Tanager: See you there!
(turns to the others)
Tanager: I think he really liked it. He was clearly moved.
Sunny: Your father would be proud of his son stealing from a group of people that did nothing to him?
Skit: Ehh...he doesn't need to know that part.
(As the group stomps noisily through the woods)
Skit: (whispering) You need to be quiet.
Ora: OH!!
Feng: Right now?
Skit: And that root over there needs to be quiet, too.
Ora: Yeah! Keep it down!
Thistle: I jingle.
Skit:  Who's going first?
Thistle:  Should i carry the note since I'm botanical?
Feng:  Yes.
Tanager:  Yeah, that way you'll be the most approachable.
Skit:  Do you want me to go too?
Sunny:  You stay with us.
Ora:  I think its better if you stay back.
Skit:  I'm getting mixed signals, here.
