Session 04: The Webbed Wode

General Summary

The session started with the group waking up in the Tilt n' Stagger Inn in Hyrule Castletown. The met up with Feng and began heading west, following the directions to a known Skulltula cave, given to them by Sgt. Ian Collins. After a few hours of travel, the group encounters a patrol of Royal Guard of Hyrule. The group inquired about a nearby skulltula cave, and the commanding officer directed them to the Webbed Wode.   Following the directions given, the group arrived in the Webbed Wode and entered it. After a short trek in, the woods trees and ground began to get covered with webbing. The group developed a plan to try to lure skulltlas to them by taking a stick and hitting a strand of web erratically. After a moment, a lone small skullula came crawling towards the group, attracted by the vibrations of the web. Sunny shot it with an arrow through its head, killing it. The group was unable to locate a poison sac on it.   They continued along carefully, and eventually came upon three more small skulltulas. Thistle turns into a bear, runs up to the closest one and tries to flip it on its back. The skulltula manages to avoid getting flipped. The rest of the group then engages the skulltulas. As the group engaged with the three skulltulas on the ground, several more skulltulas attacked the group by pouncing down from the treetops. The group are able to fend them off, killing all the skulltulas in sight.   The group then discovered a cave entrance nearby. The group cautiously entered the cave. They walked down the cave tunnel for some ways before coming to a large cavity in it that was covered in thick webs from floor to ceiling. Through the webs, on the opposite side of the cavity, the group saw two large cocoon like object - one was humanoid shaped, the other was more spherical. In the humanoid-shaped one, they were able to see something long and shiny wrapped in the webbing. As Tanager walked over to the cocoon objects, the group was attacked, as two large skulltulas dropped down from shafts in the ceiling that were hidden by the thick webbing. The spherical cocoon object then burst open, pouring hundreds of tiny skulltula hatchlings from it. A few smaller skulltulas also skittered into the cavity.   Thistle, in bear form, was sprayed with webbing from the skulltula, but was able to use his great bear strength and break free. One of the large skulltula was able to bite Ora and injected her with venom, which caused her to fall unconscious. Tanager revived her by casting healing word. Feng activated a scroll of armor of Nayru, which came in handy when a smaller skulltula bit him. The magic of the armor of Nayru caused a freezing blast to hit the skulltula, which killed it instantly. Sunny used one of his bomb flowers, damaging one of the large skulltulas with the explosion, and damaging one of the smaller skulltulas with the shrapnel. Bula attacked some of the skulltulas by casting create bonfire. One of the swarms of skulltula hatchlings began crawling all over Tanager, biting him all over. The fought tough, with Ora killing a small skulltula with her tantō, Thistle killing one with a bear bite, Bula torching a part of one of the swarms. Then the other swarm of skulltula hatchings swarmed Ora, biting her all over as well, which made her fall unconscious. Eventually, Tanager succumbed to the all the skulltula hatchling bites, making him fall into unconsciousness.   Thistle, still in bear form, was able to smash and eat all the hatchlings on Tanager. Feng managed to kill all the hatchlings on Ora. At that point, all skulltulas, big and small, were killed. Sunny stabilized Tanager and Ora. The group took a short rest, with Thistle using healing word on Tanager, and then Tanager using healing word on Ora, which brought them both to consciousness. They investigated the humanoid-shaped cocoon, finding the dead husk of an unknown person. On the husk, they found a small, metal box. They opened it and found it contained a type of smoking herb that had a strong, sweet, but medicinal smell to it. They also found a handled-net, which was the shiny thing they noticed earlier. The group then examined the two large skulltula corpses, and made an educated guess on what are the poison sacs, and collected two from both of the large skulltulas' heads.   Having got what they came for, the headed out of the cave, made their way back through the woods, back to the road, and started back towards Hyrule Castletown. They entered the city and returned to Trouble-A-Brewin'. Taffy was happy they returned, and was excited they were able to get the skulltula poison sacs. They asked Taffy is she knew anything about the smoking herb they found, and she was surprised to find they had stumbled up some Stovepipe Weed, an expensive smoking herb that only grows on Stovepipe Island, and usually only possesses by the wealthy or scoundrels.   Taffy then told them about the last component: the bark of the Blue Ash Tree . She informed them to be cautious collecting the bark, as it is very fine and billows up into a cloud if agitated. After the group contemplated mixing the blue ash tree bark and the stovepipe weed, Taffy informed them that the bark is an nose and lung irritant, and it would ruin the stovepipe weed. After, the group went back to the Tilt n' Stagger Inn to rest before heading out the next day for the final component.

Memorable Quotes

Sunny: I feel that, out of everyone in this group, you'd take the most care. You're strong but caring, it seems like. One turns into a bear. One has this weird tattoo. They're both a little bit scary. And the bird-man just seems to yell insults at things and I don't really know what he does.
Tanager: We have venom sacks!
Taffy: Yes! These are them!
Tanager: YEEEAAAAHHHH!
Taffy: That's good. Was it difficult?
Tanager:  Oh, no!
Ora:  Ehhh....
Taffy: Okay.  Good.  I was worried.
Tanager: It's not like a couple of us died, or close to it.

Tanager: Would we have smelled this at a Grateful ReDead concert?
